There's no such thing as a decent generic... they're all terrible on French cars as we don't tend to use ODBII codes to output useful data. The Clone CLIPS will do everything you want but be careful coding with them as they do some weird ass things. On the Clio's they seem to set the steering angle sensors to 31850 degrees and then it corrupts the component. You can always tell when someone has had a bash at them with a Clone. £3k will get you a legit one and it needs a £1050+VAT annual subscription to.
Ok. Just want to be able to scan for any faults that may have been logged in order to focus diagnostics. I'm aware of the pitfalls of acting on fault code and changing parts because of a out of limits sensor has thrown a code. At the moment I'm getting "check injection" and the spanner sign intermittently.
The ScanGuage II units are useful items to have as are the UltraGauge units (The UG's being cheaper) as they do code reading/clearing. They also double up as gauges to display very useful data parameters so maybe look toward buying one of these. Mick
I'd recommend the scanguage. Super simple to use and reads both stored codes and pending codes. I'm sure others do too but the simplicity of it makes it great to use.
Ditto I have the scanguage does just the job, mind you I have henks rstuner and his software does the business too with codes past/present/clearing and laptop friendly
If you can stomach the 7day wait time and a small bill from FedEx, the UtlraGuage is that bit cheaper and a better product (IMO). I've used both and actually have a ScanGuage II to sell very soon so if you want one drop me a PM but the only thing the SG does better than the UG is different display colours.
I would like to retract this statement now, unless I am being stupendously thick. This week my car threw a wobbly and had some faults thrown that for some reason did not show on the scanguage - on either of the two fault code screens. I only knew they were there by seeing them on the AA man's box of tricks. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this but thought I should mention it after raving about it.
Use a clip clone, as already stated for code reading/clearing it is brilliant but I wouldn't go messing around with programming.
