I've read a few threads of people speculating on differences between the RS models with information such as the R26 having a different springs and dampers, subframe, ARBs, larger master cylinder I know the ARB info is correct, the front went from 20 to 21mm. Did the rear setup change? Yes the springs and dampers changed but did they also change the subframe? I find it strange they would make the master cylinder larger as this would reduce braking force. Also I've read that the R26.R had softer springs etc. over the R26 because of its lighter weight...but the brochure from Renault themselves says they increased! On the Clio 172 cup for example the subframe was widened with longer steering arms to suit, it had extra caster wishbones, no abs, thinner glass, different O/S driveshaft, different rear stub axles to list just a few changes. So what is true/false and what did actually change between the models?
This could just be effective spring rate they refer to. Even if the car is lighter and the spring softer, the net result could still be stiffer..
Another one I've come across is the R26 and .R have a stiffer rear axle than the 225. As for the springs rates it says its the actual spring rate not effective rate or wheel rate and it increased from 13.4 to 14 mm/100kg on the front and the rear went from 15.1 to 16.2 mm/100kg with damping adjusted to suit on both axles. I've come across another thread showing a conversion of those rates into n/mm and lb/in but they show the figures as being softer on the .R
