I did a race in the Focus and for some reason that's way way way wayyyyy faster. Something is a bit odd, the pickup in gear of the Megane is way behind the Focus. It's like terminal turbo lag or it's modeled like the Megane has very poor mid range torque. Did a 1:56 in the Focus, and that was a moist track :\ I got a bit faster again, I think somewhere within a 100th of Mike. Will keep having a go
I just sat down for an hour Charlie and the times started dropping. Hopefully I can get them down more before the end of the week but I think Mike or grumpy will be taking it this week. Haha I have found that there's a few corners where I'm going too fast to use 2nd gear but when I use 3rd there's no drive and it takes forever to get back in the power. I'm struggling most with the rear end, I need to be smoother I think.
Yeah it will be good. This ones been run over a bit longer than if have liked with me starting mid week but it gives people a chance to jump in. Hopefully a few other lads will throw some times down soon
Only times you need 2nd gear imo are shell bend and briefly into the esses at hislops, even then just drop it into second for a bit of engine braking and short shift into 3rd when you're exiting out left of hislops into knickerbrook. This comes back to what I was saying about the dynamics of the Megane in the game though as I'm pretty sure you shouldn't need 2nd at all. There seems to be a void of mid range torque that I don't think the real car suffers by any means. I may have to dig into the files in the back ground to see if I can see how the mapping is modeled for the engine later.
I think there's a shade more time in it, but to go any significantly faster you have to really abuse the curbs and the overrun on the exits. The gamer does seem a bit generous with how far you can go off track tbh
Best I've managed so far is a 2:03! I thought that was good until I checked this thread! Haha! Definitely need more practice. Properly frustrating when you're on a good lap and you run just a little too wide and it invalidates your time, doesn't seem very consistent in the way it does it either. Some tracks you can run ridiculously wide, while on others you just have to touch the edge and it invalidates your time!
I did just look but it seems annoyingly difficult to do so, it doesn't really save a full lap replay beyond the ghosts and they seem to be minimal location data.
It's not the fast lap but a fastish one:
Yeah I agrees with the gearing and also agree there's no torque in the mid range, you have to be screaming to make progress. When you've had a root around you'll have to post your findings.
So I've taken my sim practise to the next level tonight and joined my bud at a simulator centre, only went and topped the time sheets and been invited to race Monday night free of charge in a national event. Obviously this is all through the Internet and no real cars used but I was so pleased an the regulars were so peeved. I'll let everyone know how Monday goes but I though id share as I'm in a good mood. I'd recommend it to anyone though it was a good blast but it isn't cheap.
I'm only over in Leeds, might have to think about giving that a go. But RE the engine specs for the Megane ingame, can't really get very far with it. I can extract the data from the files but I think the actual engine specs/mapping might be in some binary files I can't view in any meaningful way. I might try make a report to the devs.
Yeah you'll have to go check it out, it's actually in the bowling centre upstairs there's loads of pods but they have other ones in Southampton and London I think. Leeds isn't too far from Halifax though! They have a groupon offer 2 for 1 at the moment. Ah I see so it's a bit of a dead end. I'm going to put some more times in tonight and see if I can catch you guys up a little.
It was lined up perfectly. If it wasn't me it would have been someone else haha. Back to gaming now. Make sure you get some base times posted. I think my first few times I was in the 2.04 - 2.06 area.
Haha you could have told any man of any age or background that same sentence and they would all have the same childish thought hah.
Subscribed to grumpytwigs school of motor racing.. Then I'm going to try and replicate it lol Grumpy you on PC? And are you using a wheel?
That good skills you got there!! At least you have the option to use a logitech g27... I got one sitting here begging for the devs to bring support lol
managed to get down to high 2.01's think I could crack 2 mins but it's putting in a full clean lap that's my problem.
The website is www.theracecentre.co.uk mate. I don't know how to hyperlink on tapatalk I do apologise. I managed to do some consistent 1.59's earlier so going to try keep them dropping.
having a laugh im so old I don't even know what both of you are on about let alone think about it too lol
Ha ha I think he was hinting at me spending the day with Palm-la and her five sister and ending up with wrist whiplash!!!
No worries Charlie. Yeah it is a shame really as its a good find. I can't wait to race Monday. I'll try get some photos. Yeah I was hinting that the RSI (repetitive strain injury) would be from a little self loving haha
I found it best if I used auto to start with to learn the course breaking/turn in points, and then switched to manual, I gained a second straight away using manual.
