Hi, When I picked the car up the steering wheel had a really annoying mark on the top of the wheel. I thought it was a stain but it is where the material has actually worn for some reason. Irrespective of this, the wheel is going to wear anyway because of the material so I ideally wanted it swapped to something with a finer material such a suede so it doesn't wear as much. Has as anyone had their wheel trimmed that they can recommend? Ideally someone one that can remove the wheel and refit it for me because I haven't a bloody clue how to!!! Cheers, Alex
It shouldn't wear? It gets dirty yes. Real alcantara is a synthetic material so is quite heavy duty. Try buying some specific cleaning products. And keep on top of it. My half alcantara wheel just needs a damp mf on it occasionally with a bit of APC if it's particularly dirty.
Royal retrims are £140 IIRC. Alcantara wheel on a daily used car is always going to get tatty and not look the best, Its just part and parcel of the material. Unless you wear gloves overtime you drive it.
Yeah always expected it to wear so not really moaning just wondered best place to do it. I am going to leave it for now. Just the downside of having this type of car really is things like this but it's all good. Rather have to re do a steering wheel than drive something else!
As mentioned above, Royal Steering wheels is the place to go if you want a re-trim, had mine done last year, part alcantara, part leather. I wanted to go full alcantara but was concerned about the wear, so went for the compromise, £120 plus shipping.
scoobyr - that wouldn't help me as I tend to drive at five past one most of the time, ie. one-handed so all the wear is going to be there. I'm guessing the inverse of that would be ideal.
Someone please read up on alcantara wear/cleaning. If a 100k mile cal wheel can be brought upto New so can the one on the megane. I spent two hours in my seats and the alcantara looks as new on them.
Give it a clean. A newish car shouldn't have any issues like this. Mine gets a steering wheel lock out over it all the time which causes a fair bit of rubbing but I've not had any issues with it looking worn. It does however get dirty fast and it doesn't look great. How long you had it? Id be tempted to take it back to Renault if it's really bad. It shouldn't wear that bad and I know a few 197/200 owners who had bad wear in warranty (crap synthetic leather covering) managed to get theirs replaced
How's the wear on this going? Do do you think a full re-trim would be ok or is what you have a better option? I don't do a great deal of miles in my car so I reckon it would be in full re-trim.
Still looks like new mate, quality is excellent, admittedly I don't do a huge mileage but I reckon a full alcantara re-trim would be OK.
Retired wheels are great, i love the feel on mine in my 175. Not sure if this was Royal Steering wheels or Snappy for Cliosport.net. Feirny will know probably.
