Fuel consumption up after decat?

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by RMS225, May 24, 2015.

  1. Hey all fitted decat last wknd full 3" back with rear silencer and on my previous runs upto St Neots from slough I'd average 28 on the mway but this wknd I averaged 34 same speed same route is this something anyone else has experienced thanks

  2. I.take it the cars been mapped for the decat and full system.

  3. It will run leaner after cat removal , hence recommending a map

  4. X2 need mapping

  5. Stick on a local dyno to check your afr's.

  6. Not been mapped as of yet will it be ok to use for a while until I get it done?

  7. Are you driving it the same. Things like exhaust mods/air filters can lead to worse economy as you gain a heavier right foot due to the noise.

  8. I drove for months with a decat and a 250 turbo before remapping.

  9. Drive the same slow like an snail only blast it if I need it so should be ok for say a month only use it for 12 miles a week

  10. That doesnt mean no damage was done James. Just cos you dont see it , dont mean its not there.

  11. I doubt very much it will be detrimental to an engine. Yeah it's not optimum buy how much does a decat actually affect the fuelling?

  12. Quite a lot if fuel economy goes up.. It's always best to have it checked on a dyno for afr and safeness and it will need mapping.. Like said damage can be done internally ie det ect.. ya just need to be careful can soon crack a ring land or do a valve in very easy buddy

  13. How do we know he wasn't running rich before?
Allegedly fuel economy goes up after a remap too.

  14. Thanks for all the advice chaps think I'll get it on the dyno and see what's up.
