What fuel do you use? where I live in sleepy Devon they don't have a shell so I have to use Tesco momentum just wondering what every one else uses if they recomend something better to try! Cheers matt
And to be fair I tend to use tesco momentum and have a little pop at idle, does pull fine through the revs. Not got a shell garage that close to me but might be worth a the drive just to see if I notice a difference.
I try to use only Vpower if i can, or the Tesco stuff, can't notice any difference in any of em to be honest.
I've never had a problem with Tesco but some people I know will only use texaco and I've never tried the stuff but I think I'll stick with Tesco unless shell suddenly comes closer than an hour drive!
I use Momentum when I can but 'make do' with Shell if there isn't a Tesco near by. Where abouts in Devon are you?
Ahh! I suspected it may be a distance with you living an hour away from a Shell garage. Keep an eye out on the South West section because a few of us want to drive up to North Devon so if you know any good roads up there we could do with a lead car
With fuel its all about the bs number that affects its overall Ron, if you look at shell v power Tesco momentum and even sainsburys they are all 99ron (all be it with extra detergents in) but others like Esso super bp ultimate texico supreme ect are all only 98ron, with the why use shell argument its more about the fact they are there own fuel so in theory cleaner what comes out the pump which is were the supermarkets fall short.
I thought vpower was 98?? I use momentum all the time. Works fine for me and is on average around 10p a litre cheaper.
and its not all about RON , the MON rating is important too. I would also add the higher a RON , the faster it drops in time. So if your fuel is stood in a storage tank for yonks the RON will go.

Lol at this^ The RON rating given by the companies is as much an average of the fuel quality. You may find that although Shell, etc, quote 98 ron that in fact it is likely to be at least that rating. For me, I know the mk2 megane isn't all that clever with biofuels (or petrols that have a high percentage of biofuel). From the little I know, biofuel is significantly cheaper than normal fuel hence why supermarkets can often charge a much lower price than mainstream fuel. That said, mainstream companies also include biofuel but I know that the higher RON rating fuels from the big companies will tend to have less biofuel. From what I gather from Renault press guff, the mk3 megane should have an engine that is happy with biofuel. But not the mk2!
I use to work in oil industry until last year.. Moved to chemicals now.. little secret.. I worked on a valero refinery (texaco uk's new owner) and we used to fill shell tankers there due to the bs standards on fuel as stated it is all manufactured same quality.. Ones that run 98 super fuel just do that as they wanna make it cheaper so they can add more waste hydrocarbons in it which brings in down from 99-98
