Hi, new R26 owner and after a quick detailing session today; hand application followed by machine buffing, i realised a huge amount of tar to both sides of the car. Can anyone recommend a treatment for this ? thanks
Machine polishing with tar still on???? Okay. Best stuff is easily tardis. EBay it. Then clay bar the car.
I know, I gave the car a real quick wash, drove to the driveway to get some electricity, started on the rear then when i was halfway round it came apparent naivety! Thanks, i'll check it out as well as tardis; read some reviews, see what the detailing world is saying!
Ah fair one mate, I found it great personally but that's the problem with recommendations, it's each to their own! Did find it left the odd mark if it got to dry and were a bit of pain to get off but thought it was worth it for ease of use and speed.
I've got no intention to bar/clay the car. I've no idea how to use it. I'm brand new to detailing. I've only just begun polishing. If anyone would point me into some novice guides, that could be really handy!
Clay bar - lubricate the area and rub it on, it picks up all of the gunk stuck in your paint. Watch the AMMO NYC channel on YouTube, he'll tell you everything you need to know and he's on another level of ocd!
I use a clay cloth and found this not to be the case. I have a black R26 with the softest paint known to man too.
Just ordered 5L of Tardis. White cars..... no idea why I keep buying white cars. I don't even like white....
You'll find some is tar and some is fallout. The tar will melt with the tardis on it, what doesn't melt with be contamination and a lot of that can be removed with an iron/fallout remover. The best way to do it is wash the car, dry it, then tardis, rinse off, dry it again, then fallout remover, then rinse and dry again. The reason being tar and fallout removers are water soluble and won't work as well on a wet car. I use Bilt Hamber Korrosol for iron/fallout removal, it's as good as anything else but you get 1L for the price of most others 500ml. Another vote here for the G3 clay mitt too, removes everything that tar and fallout remover don't and will leave your paint like glass. You'll only marr the paint if you don't use enough lube, it's much easier to scratch or marr with a clay bar ime.
'tis why I bought some Iron X type stuff too I actually decided to try some "Valet Pro Dragons Breath" (such stupid names) as that's similarly cheaper per quantity than IronX which seems to command a ridiculous price and should essentially be identical for all my needs, cars sat in a garage 75% of the time so it doesn't suffer so much fallout thankfully. I might have to try a clay mitt though, the bars while they work just seem to be a bit of a pita to work with.
I use either Tardis or Auto Finesse Oblitarate for tar spots, both work well for me. I tried the G3 clay mitt earlier this year as I had a Halfords voucher, marred the paintwork on my Oyster grey 250 to buggerey :mad: I used super amounts of lube and also a fresh bucket of water with soapy suds but my paintwork was a mess. I was super careful, I'm no pro but like to think I'm a reasonably experienced amateur, put me of clay mitts I must admit. Not sure if it's just the G3 mitt, have tried a few of their products and not been impressed with any of them to be honest, going back to traditional ultra fine clay next time.....
Clay bar didn't shift much but a spare bottle of AG tar remover worked very nicely indeed on my ultra blue paint.
So, an update. I purchased tardis, arrived in a clear bottle with no spray or anything; anyone else following this thread, purchase a spray bottle. I went to poundland and purchased a hairdresesr sprayer; a metal container as wary that tardis contains chemicals which some plastics wont like. Set a wide spray nozzle and went to action, the entire car was caked in tar, like, seriously caked in it. A thorough wash followed by this, and over the entire car, i expect i used near enough 500ml. But, the results were simply amazing. Great product and a great heads up
A good alternative for clay barring is Carbon Collective's clay mitt, tie this with their Lusso Shampoo and it will remove most contaminants.
Hey ginge! Should of said at FCS you were having Tar problems. i have some really good juicy details glue and tar remover that works a treat and doesnt break the bank. Tardis is also superb for the monies If your coming to pugfest i'll happily let you loose with the clay bar and show you the basics.
I've had some front end/bonnet respray work done. What difference does it make? Also looking to try Tardis as I tried that CarPro Trix that's meant to be Iron x and a tar remover and personally found it crap.. And the spray head broke within the first 10 seconds of using it.. Barely removed anything. Waste of money. Also tried Kleers tar remover, crap also. So many spots at the back and bottom of doors etc.
If Trix didn't work then I can't see Tardis being any better, are you sure it's tar? I've used both and equally effective as one another. The Spray head are provided by the distributor afaik, they probably didn't send once suitable for chemicals.
Well it certainly looks like tar, on the sides definitely. Was more concentrating on the back after de-badging it though. Tried some ferrous dueller on it to and didn't take it right off. The ones on the back are really fine dots. What else could it be? Maybe i'm not leaving it to dwell long enough?
Don't forget, tardis won't remove all tar. 40% of the tar on the car, first time I used tardis and detailed the car, needed to be clay barred
That makes sense, never clayed my car actually. Scared to try haha. Really need to learn as the tar spots against the white just do my head in.. Would you have any tips on starting out if i was to attempt?
YouTube Honestly. I'd never clay barred in my life, looked at YouTube, but the meguiars kit from halfords - 2 bars, lubricant and a cloth, follow the instructions and away you go. Use plenty of lube and keep working an area to remove dirt, be persistent!
