Just want to know what is the best upgrade I can do to the sound system in my car as it's rubbish ! Any ideas etc regarding head unit speakers and amps etc ?
Hi Lynchy. I run a Double Din unit, with upgraded Pioneer speakers, and an undersea sub. Although this is better than standard, its NOT HiFi. It improves it marginally. For really good sound in the car, I use the IPhone, with a portable Amp/Dac,and some top quality in ears. This is in a different league to most in car installs, though there are exceptions. Most aftermarket units/speaker upgrades, will improve in car sound to some degree, and as a lot of units are 50 watts channel, I haven't found it necessary to Amp them up. There are plenty of people on here, who can tell you about adding sound panels to doors/etc to help with the sound, but i try to lose weight from the car,not add it!.
No same speakers across the range, I've got these in mine no cutting or messing about http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/spe...t/pioneer-ts-q131c-13cm-custom-fit-components Although you can use these if you fit different speaker, if you do fit different take note of the mounting depth otherwise your have to cut the cover in the door card then you can end up with water in the door card pockets http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=260859493867&alt=web I've fitted a alpine double sin head unit anything is beeter than the standard head unit to power the speakers
Rather than starting a new thread; can i hijack this slightly and ask to see the double din's people are using. Looking to replace the OEM headunit with something a little nicer. Also, what kind of adapters are needed to connect aftermarket headunits with the stalk and dash display?
My car came with a false floor in the boot, covering a sub in the spare wheel well. Not something I would have spent my money on, but something I definitely like. Enough space to hide an amp for the door speakers too
Now I'm intrigued, sounds very interesting, is this a new technology? I'm running one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00AAXRTQU/?tag=rsmeg-21 , I chose this one mainly as it's one of the few units knocking about that has DAB and bluetooth.
I'm looking at buying this http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/head-units/double-din/clarion-vx402e-double-din It says " OEM steering wheel remote ready (requires additional cables)" What cables are these exactly?? It's quite a nice HU as it has all functions i need. I never use USB as my phone tends to die quickly so prefer USB connectivity.
I've stuck an in phase USW10 compact sub under the passenger seat. Bit of a tight squeeze but it goes in alright. It has improved the sound quality ten fold and I didn't have to change the head unit.
I've got an alpine CDE 178bt! Bluetooth, usb and aux. retains top display and full steering controls and it made the stock speakers sound much better!
I am not sure what to get, was looking at Apples CarPlay head units, easy for calls ect, but crap for radio and no DAB. but then could get a single din unit and keep the cubby hole below for phone/iPod
I have a Sony Phone and Watch so went For a Sony MEX-N5000BT Which puts out 4x55W RMS which is ample for the Megane 2 and is fully controllable with the Bespoke Sony app on the phone with a treack data Display. The stalk controls work fully and the top display shows some info (but basically the Time and the Temperature of the drivers door mirror. I am running Vibe 80W RMS 5" Component speakers in the front, which are better than the OE. I will probably move to the fronts to the rear and replace with the Pioneer bespoke Componet units soon I also have a Clarion SVr250 Under-seat Sub Unit which certainly boosts the bass lost when driving whilst not turning the car into a Chav-mobile Am thinking of maybe replacing the Sony with an Android Dual Din Unit so I can run live data from my ODBII
@barman58 Did you need to buy any extra cables for this to work with the stalk controls? I've got the Cabasse system in mine, which seems to be a curse if you want to swap it out but keep the stalk controls....
Yes had to use a bespoke cable and black box, got from local specialist in Cardiff, but am sure they are available on line. Will check when I get back home not sure if they do Cabasse system but will check catalogue
Ok have checked and can't find receipt from local store with part number but have found a link to the suppliers catalogue for steering wheel items I used a PC29-608 main lead with the Sony adaptor on my MK2 PH1, but they do other options for later models and hopefully the Cabasse systems, I'd suggest contacting them as if anybody can support the system they can
