I've just ordered a aux input cable for my head unit. As I was looking to see if there was a place to thread the 3.5mm jack end through without drilling anything, I found what looks like a rubber plug/bung in the compartment below the head unit. I tried pulling it out but it seems to be glued in place. Does anyone know what it's for or what's behind it? Is it even a factory thing or something a previous owner has done? Ben.
Benno ive ordered one too and doing the same thing, that def looks like a previous owner mod, prob he did the same thing, cos mine aint got that, bloody wish it did tho, wud save me a job lol
As above. Not factory! Out of interest, why are you guys going to the 3.5mm aux option? I'm guessing this is to run an iPod or similar? For a few more quid you can either get a proper wired input to the CD changer plug or Bluetooth to the CD changer plug. Admittedly you loose CD changer functionality but the 3.5mm jack is a poor signal and on d it's been through the head units amp you're not going to get the best sound? Just a thought. I appreciate these 3.5mm aux inputs are something like £6 off eBay but I think I'll be going down the connects2 route.

It will do mate, i've just got the standard update list or tuner list whatever it is and i put in a 6 cd changer so definitely has the plug at the back!

my phone headphone cable that came has a green square jj, is that the cd changer socket by anychance, not that I am that lucky ;lol

The reason I went for the 3.5mm jack option is because I wanted something fairly simple to install. I wasn't aware of the connects2 system. How does it differ from from the 3.5mm jack and is it complicated to fit?
Right guys, the CD changer option is going to be as easy as the aux option. It's plug and play. The aux in is only applicable to update list tuner head units (this may be wrong but what I've read). Although the connects2 shows tuner list compatibility. This is cheaper: http://www.connects2.co.uk/ProductInformation.aspx?id=11879&p=CTARNIPOD003.2 The advantage of these is that you keep full functionality of the steering wheel control and on the wired version you will automatically charge the device you are streaming from. The Bluetooth version has the ability for you to plug and charge the device into the module. The module you'd fit into the glovebox (well I would). It also comes with a mic if you want to add hands free too. The sound quality is massively better. The 3.5mm output from an iPod or iPhone etc is designed to feed small headphones and the quality is effected especially after going through the amp via the aux in socket.
