I'm looking to get a Renault CLIP for my 250. There are quite a lot on ebay. I read somewhere that the eBay ones have limited functionality. Does anyone have one? There are features that a dealer can turn off and on using CLIP, will the eBay CLIP be able to do this? Also, most of them come with CLIP v146 and also a Reprog software. What is the Reprog software? what sort of things does it reprogram? There are versions 135 and 139 available.
They all work only under Windows XP. Keep this in mind. And they don't work under a virtual machine either. They have all the functionality if you don't get a scam on eBay. Mine is working fine. S.
They work on windows xp and 32 bit windows 7. The 146 versions should be OK. Earlier ones were rubbish. As for functionality, ctgey have all the functions you'd need (and some you really don't want to be messing with ). I turned off the seat belt buzzer on my r26. Reprog is for updating firmware. Not recommended, but it does work.
That sound's good. I'm in West Sussex. There are quite a few on ebay, so keeping my eye on them. I've come across a few just under £100. In regards to programming new key, does it have to be a blank key? just wondering where I can buy a blank key from?
He James I'm just near Brighton. Where are you? Looks like we're after the same thing too - new key etc.
Didnt renault stop you from coding any old key to your car? From what ive read the cards have to be order direct from france precoded to your car then activated at the dealership
You can code blank keys and "virginised" used keys. It is worth noting, that coding Keysoe clip is awkward, and could potentially disable your existing key. Clip is a really useful tool, but has the potential to mess things up.
@Giles, i'm in Crawley. @smegal, i've ordered a CLIP kit from eBay should be here within a few days and comes with v146. Is there a particular section within CLIP where features can be turned on and off?
The reprog section IIRC. I have a RS Monitor on its way to me so looking to get Clip myself if it needs enabled so interested to see how you get on with it
Jamie, are u planning to retrofit RS monitor? @smegal, so it's not in the Reprog? any ideas where it would be?
Just the V1, R-Link isn't possibly at all, Unless you want to re wire the car and change looms. R-Link is a buggy, Glitchy POS anyway. Im not that fussed about having it regardless as ill be getting proper gauges at some point
I've received my CLIP today, there are two main cables, one is the regular OBD connector and the other is some squarish connector, but it seems only one or the other can be used. Below is a pic of the two cables i've marked with a red arrow. Can anyone tell me what the second non-obd connector cable is? Thanks
Thanks, any idea what the white hook style bracket is for? doesn't seem to serve a purpose, maybe for hanging it or hooking it onto something?
Haven't had time to install it yet. Going to format a spare laptop and use for car purposes. Will this version of CLIP work with Windows 7 32-Bit? The laptop is a 64-Bit laptop but i've loaded windows 7 32-Bit on it.
Yes it will work with 32 bit. If you're setting up a car laptop, you also want a copy of dialogys too.
Having had a hectic few months, Didn't get round to installing the CLIP i bought. Finally installed it on my dedicated car laptop. Installation was pretty simple on the Windows 7 32-Bit. However, i'm on the bit where I plug in the USB cable to the CLIP device and then plug it into the computer so that the computer can detect the new hardware. However, there is no light on the CLIP device and no new hardware is being detected. Seems like the CLIP device needs some sort of external power. Does the CLIP device need to be plugged into the OBD port of the car before the laptop can pick it up?
Even though I don't know for sure, it's likely that USB power is not sufficient.. Unless the unit has a DC power jack or similar, it probably gets power from the OBD port...
I have clip. Yes you do need to plug it into the obd as it needs the power from there too. It'll then recognise it. Note though that it might only connect as a can connection rather than an iso as well. That's not the end of the world though as that's really just used for the fault finding which you can do through the main clip software (although a little more protracted). It's because the chineese haven't yet been able to sort a Windows 7 iso driver yet. Word of warning with clip, especially if you have the reprogramming module. Potentially easy to funk your motor, so don't just go clicking stuff without being certain.
Thanks. Any particular section you would advise staying away from? I am mainly looking for the section that allows me to enable/disable features. Any idea what section I would find that?
I thought these knock-offs where basically clones of the renault unit and thus would work with the same software?
If your looking at turning stuff on and off the uch computer is the body control computer if I remember rightly, be very careful tho because you can reconfigure stuff then cause all sorts of agro
So, I finally got my CLIP connected and working on my Windows 7 32 Bit laptop. I cannot seem to find where you turn features off and on? The only thing I was able to find is changing the country zone which then allows you to turn off DRL, turn on Scandinavian lights and a few extra things but nothing much. There is a section for programming but if you enter that section it asks for some sort of 7 digit number of what device needs programming, so I stayed away from that. I am particularly looking for a way to see if I can access the headlamp washer setting to turn it on or off. Anyone know if this is possible? Thanks
