250 Overboost problem p0234 (check injection/anti pollution system)

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Sparta, Feb 10, 2015.

  1. HI guys,

I was on the motorway the other day doing around 70, there was some car hugging the middle lane and lorries in the left hand lane so I went into the right hand lane and accelerated to get pass.

Immediately the engine light came on and I got a check injection message followed by the check anti pollution system. I plugged in my obd machine and connected it to my phone where I got the p0234 error. I have since cleared the error and it hasnt returned, though I havent been on the motorway.

The car still pulls well, the only issue i can find is a slight whistling whilst accelerating.

    Any one has any ideas?

Is p0234 not boost pressure/over boost If on motorway already doing 70 maybe a slight misfire as the boost came on or boost spike ect, I'm sure this happened to my brothers 225 a few years ago, did it once then not again for near 2 months think it was cured when serviced poss because new plugs fitted.

  3. Sounds about right mate, you reckon that caused the whistling noise too? I recently had it serviced, you reckon it could be the quality of the plugs used

Not sure about the whistle that might suggest a slight air Leake ? It could be from heavy loading again hitting boost when already doing the 70mph (in time the build up oil in the intake system joints does not help with this). From memory we changed the plugs on the 225 and all was good how ever yours may have simply been a boost spike. Now code is cleared best to see if it returns first. What's the saying if it ain't broken.....

  5. Just clear the code. It's the cold dense air will have caused the engine to draw more boost and pinged the light on

Very Poss but the op mentioned whistle noise so the question should be did it make the whistle noise before and or is it doing it now ?

  7. Didn't whistle before, it's doing it now if I put my foot down - aswell as it sounds like it's losing air somewhere.
The cars only done about 20k and had just been serviced. I still want a specialist to take a look, just in case.

  8. The boost spike may have caused a leak somewhere, a whistle is normally a tell tale sign of a boost leak - that's what I'd be looking for

  9. So I have this error again. It seems if I really put my foot down for a period of time it pops up. There's no loss of power or anything. Anyone got any ideas of what I should be looking at? I read that it might be the egr valve that's blocked?

Are you still getting the whistle noise?

  11. It's not so much of a whistle it's more or the turbo noise. Haven't had the car long. That noise has been there I reckon but I've only noticed it when the error came on.

  12. Does anyone know what boost the 225 should b running juat out of curiosity. ?

  13. Does it have an aftermarket dump valve?

  14. Sounds like a boost leak. Check your boost circuit pipes. the whistling gives me a pointer in looking in that direction

  15. @Jamesbryan no dumpvalve.

@andybond I'll get that checked. Any renault specialist in Birmingham that won't cost me an arm n a leg ?

Btm performance birmingham would look at it for you they are in the traders section take a look

  17. Hi, i have the same problem. I cant find solution.. I cant see boost leak, i revised circuit, only I need to remove the Intake and exhaust leaks. Any can help me? Thanks guys 6566d3e32a2a4dc04767e2cbcff3436f.jpg

  18. From what I remember it turned it out to be a damaged actuator which then caused the con rods to bend!

  19. Which one? Thanks

  20. Both happened but the cause was a damaged actuator, very visibly damaged, looked like it had been hit with a hammer! That iirc caused the overboost error, however the damage caused by the error made the con rods bend but this had other symptoms, misfiring, and a knocking noise.
So I'd look at the actuator first

  21. Thanks Jjones82! Can you a pic of actuator? Is a wastegate or other? Thanks

  22. I'm on my mobile so not sure how to link threads etc, but look in the wanted section under the thread started by Sparta "wanted 250 engine" I think there's a pic on pg 10

  23. Thanks again! But this Engine swallowed water don't you? 767f5dfd4a3b1eb3dcd734f4129f30a5.jpg

  24. Nope no water / hydrolock - that was one of the theories kicking about but it had a damaged actuator, it's on a standard induction too so can't see it sucking in water personnally.
99% sure it was the actuator that caused all the damage

  25. Ok, but i cant find this actuator.. I don't know which is..

  26. It's attached to the turbo

  27. Wastegate or diverter really?

  28. Must've been running immense torque then!

  29. With a fubar'd actuator it would just keep producing boost until the ecu cuts it, unsure how much torque it would make in that situation tbh but the ecu wasn't quick enough to save the engine I don't think!

  30. Yes, i Think that! I have 440 nm torque At 3500 RPm aprox.

  31. You should have the recirculation valve and the actuator(wastegate) attached to the turbo

  32. I need messuring compression cylinders and i show you accelerated in fourth gear.

  33. 2,55 is out of the sensors range, also looking at the dips in timing i assume the ecu is pulling ignition out because of knock. Don't push the car till you get the problem solved or you'll risk a damaged engine!

  34. ecu controls the boost on the 250, it was never determined whether it was the actuator damage that caused the rods to bend. if i recall it had a seizure hazard message when he bought it after it was repaired after a crash. so i would take the actuator problem with a pinch of salt

  35. Ha ha makes me laugh, there's all ways more info coming out all the time with Sparta's damaged engine! I never heard about the seizure error msg till now!

  36. I Think, my problem is a map..

  37. 2,55KPA = 22,78 PSI the only way I can get to that pressure wastegate hose is disconnected, otherwise the ECU corrects lower value but the car does not work so powerful

  38. Sorry, didn't realise we where talking about a 250.

Looks like an improper calibration indeed. Boost pressure is tampered with but they didn't change the fault code limits

  39. Wasn't that something to do with low coolant or is that another one?

  40. He posted different things on loads of different forums, he never told the full story in the one post.
I think it was an "engine failure" and like James said it had no coolant in the thing!
