The R26 Project (picture heavy)

  1. I didn't think bbs wheels fit megane??

  2. They're on the red megane in the picture so guess they fit.

  3. Well I have been playing with the megane , just not a lot :worried:

Good news after a lot of messing about , I fitted the Milltek system ! What a PITA ! Bumper off all sorts was hoping for a quick job lol
Then when fitted I realised it was supposed to have a Milltek rear exhaust mount that I didn't get hold off , so it's ok the normal mount with a cable tie modification to stop it rattling haha

I was over the moon with the system , until I ran it for 5 mins and thought, this is blowing somewhere , back up on the ramp and found the front flexi pipe although no signs of damage , it's blowing ! Gutted :worried:

I rang Milltek the next day to try arrange a mount and front flexi , as per there customer service was crap ! Messed me about through email for a while then never got back to me , so I rang again , and they do the flexi sperate , but it's about £150+vat ! But no price on the rear mount and I got annoyed chasing them so I gave up !

Fast forward to now , and some how luckily I've dropped on, after a random chat on Facebook I managed to find a bloke selling a BNIB , Milltek front flexi , 2.75 inch make him a offer , so after a chat , he was happy with £70+ postage , deal done and it landed yesterday, looks spot on never been fitted as it wasn't what he needed !

So that will be getting chucked on ASAP!

Also bought a set of 20mm hubcentric rear spacers , and extended bolts for the rear which I've put on, wasn't too sure on them at first , but they do give the rear end a lot more presence , can't say it handles any different but I haven't really pushed hard yet !

Also when it was up, I fitted a brand new Renault Nearside Track rod end as the old one was cream crackered! Could really benefit from a inner track rod as well which I shall get sorted in due course along with a OSF shocker !

While it was it bits I tried stop the brake squeal , so ripped out all the pads and chamfered all the edges and gave them a clean a some fresh grease , worked for a little bit but still have a little noise , which I'm sure is just pad noise now !

New steering wheel has landed , which will be getting sent up to snappy after Christmas to be refurbished as always his work is top and after my 182 wheel it won't go anywhere else haha

So over all I'm getting there slowly ! Cars a little dirty and feeling sorry for itself , so I'm hoping give it a clean tomorrow and hopefully if I get time may make a start on machining the car ! I'll get some new photos of the new bits and fingers crossed it will be okay

  4. Well I haven't half been dragging my feet with this megane as of late , it's been running really well over the last couple of months which is great !

I've had so many bits I need to do but no time at the moment , sitting next to my box I have a brand new shocker , brand new inner track Rod!
I also have a brand new in box Milltek flexible pipe to replace the one on the car as it's blowing [IMG]
Also have some little bits and bobs , new door switches for the keyless entry and a few side light bulbs and clear indicator bulbs to fit haha

I just need a full day to hit the car now !

Also as a present to myself , I had a chat with Adam at Renault Wolverhampton, and ended up ordering a new R26R spoiler lol £110+vat iirc !

The car was sent last Friday to a local Bodyshop (owner is a friend who owed me a favour)
And £50 later it's been painted and fitted ! I don't have any good photos of it yet , It really needs a clean but some till I get a good photo

Hopefully I'll be able to keep it posted more often now ! Comments welcome as always

  5. Hey beasley nice to see you back on here mate

This is my next mod as i really need the spoiler now. Did you get the spoiler colour matched ie black gold or just straight black. Unsure whether to order off adam then get painted or sprayshack etc.

how did you find the fitting?

  6. hi mate I know ive been crazy last few months had no time !

I has the spoiler from Adam but they are unpainted from him, I went to my local Bodyshop and gave him the paint code GNA it is which isn't black gold (I though it was too) it's Deep black apparently lol !

he sprayed it for me and fitted it but I don't think they are that bad to fit mate !

Well ill worth the investment love the difference

  7. Well the times hs finally come around that I actually need to do some work on the megane !

To be fair ive been rather lazy and stock piling bits together , but between work and other jobs ive had no time to even look at the megane !

Ive booked two days off work start of March, and cleared it with work to use my ramp, and the megane is having everything thrown at it , all the bits I have including some new stuff too !

    List as it stands ,
    New milltek front exhaust flexi
    Offside front shock absorber
    Nearside front track rod end
    Clear indicators bulbs all round
    New LED front sidelights

Also , I got a bit cheeky on eBay the other night

Got this new intercooler for a bargain

Ive seen some debates on these , and as much as I'd love a forge or airtec I just can't justify the cost :worried:

I know a lad who has this exact intercooler running a steady 270 bhp 290ft ( which is my aim) He's done a few runs and inlet temps were great , so I'm hoping this works well, after all the proof is in the pudding , I don't want to go big power , my aim is 270bhp I'll be happy at that so this should be plenty !
And bet thing is , £76 delivered ! So even if it isn't the best , you can't argue with that when its new !

Also after a chatter on the Facebook group , I got chatting about this Nearside track rod play , turns out it's quite common on these (I never knew) so I have a new track rod , under the apprehension that would cure the play, but apparently not , there's a nylon bush that sits inside the steering rack, which fails , and causes the play!

Now I'm yet to rip the car apart , but in the interest of speed , I decided to track down the bush , which can be bought seperatly from a company called track focus direct ! (Thanks Adam greenhouse  )

The bush is £33 a lot cheaper than a new rack , and it's on its way, I will be fitting this along with the new track rod end so that will hopefully eliminate any play at all !

All being well I'll have a nice healthy megane ready for stage 2 soon enough !

    Comments welcome as always

  8. good to see the updates coming mate.

The cooler you have bought i believe is just the same as oem though were you after a larger one?

I went for larger one from ebay looked like a forge one there is a guy on ebay selling them under £200.

  9. Hi mate thanks, its not the same as OEM , the core is bigger at 60 mm and I measured it all up before I got it ! Got a lad I know seeing good power with it so I'm happy !

  10. Well ive been saying for a while that I need to get the paintwork tidied up a bit on the megane , but inbetween sorting other people's car ive not even looked at mine !

Finally got a free weekend last weekend and decided the megane was in for it , started nice and early and a mate popped around to give me a hand !

It's been washed snowfoams , clayed and washed again , dried and then we started with the machine polishing !

We used a combo of many things, DAS-6 Pro , DA-21 and used multiple foam pads , for cutting we used AB enrich , as I find this a great product, and not too much cut, and finished with AB final finish , I gave it a very quick layer of Definitive wax show edition , but didn't quite manage to finish the full car before it went dark!

It's going to be washed again soon and a layer of wax ! Quite keen to try a new product called Sonax net shield so I may try that !

While it was there I thought I'll get some photos with the new spoiler on as well !

Came out pretty well just need some finishing touches !

    Comments welcome as always !

  11. Well ive finally spent some time on the megane ! Not as much as I'd have like due to not being too well, but I have got a lot done !

Ive finally replaced the OSF shocker , it's been on its way for a while and it's been driving me up the wall!

All its fluid had come out now so it was about due to say the least ! Took a bit of fettling and a convo with mark black (top guy) on the best ways of removing it !

While I was there I decided to replace the Milltek front exhaust flexi that's been driving me nuts as well , it's always blown from when I fitted it but the last couple of weeks it's started to get worse , unfortunately with the system it was siezed solid in the Center section so I ended up removing the full system and bumper and starting again which most likely helped as I tweeked a few things (rear mount was modified so no rattle) and the position was slightly altered , but over all happy days , it sounds a million times better , a lot more poppy which it's never sounded like!

I also set about fitting this new intercooler , which ive sprayed black , because I prefer the stealth look to be honest , Now I knew from day 1 it's only small compared to the forge or airtec, however a friend has this excat one and sees a good 270 bhp without any rise in inlet temps so that's plenty for me !

Here's a few photos before and after

I also took this time while the bumpers etc were off to sort a few bulbs lol , ive replaced the two front side light bulbs with new LED 501s as one was flickering , ive replaced the indicator bulbs with silverline bulbs that are visually silver but flash orange , same at the rear , and I replaced my front fog lamps with new led bulbs , makes the world of difference !

Few things left to do but getting there finally !

Also so found out it's about a year ago I bought it , seams longer ! Lol

    Comments always welcome

  12. have you had yours mapped yet Dean? or is it going for mapping at some point?

Could you do me a favour and point me in the right direction for the silverline indicator bulbs and were you got them?. The orange tinge really is annoying me and could do with these being changed on mine.

great additons as always i do like the idea of painting the intercooler.

  13. Its going to get mapped in the future mate not yet , but it'll get done , think I'll upgrade the clutch and everything first , rather have a good solid base to get it sort rather than map it and have bits go wrong ! Lol

ive been meaning do the bulbs for a while they look loads better

only got a photo of the back, I'll get some more they don't stand out as much !

I got mine of eBay link is

    http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=380756347433

i got two sets one front one rear for mine mate !

  14. totally forgot about the rears, your right does look better. cheers for the link i've ordered 2 sets now.

  15. No problems mate ! Always worth doing all 4 ! Lol cleans the car up a bit anyway

  16. Progress has been somewhat slower on this Meg than I wanted !

It's hard at the moment juggling work and all sorts but I had the chance do a few bits and bobs on the car on Easter Friday at work , gave it a once over and noticed there's some slight play in offside front track rod / end , no I already have replaced the NS track rod end , but I need to fit the NS track rod and the nylon bush within the rack , so this has kind of spurred me on , so ive ordered now a OSF rack end and track rod so I can do it all once and then track it up once !

It'll have new track rod ends and rods Both sides and a nylon bush replaced !

Also found 5 mins to replace the drivers brake light that was out , and swap the numberplate lamps to some LED lamps, I had LED bulbs in before but the chance came up for some lamps , a lad had bought them and they didn't fit his phase 1 , price agreed and they were on the way to mine ! They were a little tight to fit and took some jiggery pokerey to get the plugs onto the lamps but once on they have been great  really bright !

Here's some photos of the number plate lamps and front fogs and clear indicator bulbs , they don't do them justice as it was daylight, but at night they really really stand out

Oh and I gave it a good going over washed , and finally did what I was thinking of
It's now window sticker less hahaha

    It'll get there slowly !!

  17. Loads nicer without so many stickers.

  18. Does tidy up the rear end a little I must say ! The adult in me likes it , the child in me not so much so haha

  19. what bulbs did you use for fog lamps please mate? and did you change your full beam bulbs as well?
i've changed my sidelights and Main Beam just need to do the rest

  20. Hi mate, great looking car! I've recently bought a black one myself could you get some pics of your air filter setup please and also post a link to the filter you bought on eBay too? Thanks!

  21. hi mate , I haven't changed the main beam yet, to be honest I've never felt the need they are bright as hell anyway haha the fog lights I'll post the link from eBay mate

    http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=331377332377

Hi mate , thank you very much , it's coming along now ? I'll find you the link it was a ram air 70mm cone filter ,
not hard to fit bud here's the link

    http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=350835991350

    hope these help boys !

  22. Cheers mate!

  23. Some people go for slightly smaller inlet 65mm ish I think but I got the 70mm in just took some jiggery pokerey lol

  24. Need to get some more bits done on the Meg!

Just taken delivery of a new Oil and Filter for it so that's going to be put on to keep the full service history up to date !

Also dropped on a new gadget which I've been keeping my eyes out for !

A scan gauge 2 , I like to monitor things so it comes in useful , I've set it up to give boost pressure , RPM, air inlet temp and Coolant temp , as yet , everything is looking bang on what it should be , running around 13-14psi (which needs fine tuning has to be set off atmospheric pressure ) coolant sits at 88degrees and the air inlet is keeping nice and cold , around a degree or two above outside temp so I'm happy !

And some nice beading after being left out of the car port the other day, currently has 50 cal Penta wax , but I regularly change it due to the passion of cleaning them, just Had another definitive wax land and I've been using Sonax Polymor net shield as the beading is amazing !

Getting there with it , needs a set of front tyres next month so I'll be ordering them soon as well!
Fancying some Michelin Super sports see what happens though !

  25. Loving that scan gauge!

  26. Haha it's awesome bit of kit mate, dead happy with it , got a bit nervous at the start of it because it's supposed to turn off after 12 seconds when the ignition it's turned off but mine seamed to stay live , was really worried about it but the ld I bought it from said it does in the megane because of the push button start leave it 5-10 mins it'll go off and it did was a bit worried about killing my battery but it's been on a week or so now been spot on !

  27. How much are they out of interest?

  28. I also used a 70mm Ramair cone also but went a slightly differenter route so the filter is fully enclosed from the engine bay heat.

All fitted with a shorter and straighter intake but you will need the battery in the boot.

  29. Great set up James ! Very impressive !

To be fair I've been monitoring the inlet temps on the scangauge and they are pretty low as it is at the moment, still massively impressed mate

  30. Thanks mate.

For years I've seen the short ram v cai argument so thought I would get the best of both.
I'm going to wrap and tape the intake pipe at the weekend too. Might not do much but can't hurt.

  31. Hey every little helps mate , it may help as long as it isn't doing any harm that's the key !

  32. loved reading this project. The car looks mint
I'm after an induction kit too just one thing if I buy the ram air one you got off ebay do I not have to buy anything else? What are the differences with that one compared to the likes of the ITG one that someone pasted a link to where you have to buy some silicone pipes etc

  33. Hi bud sorry only just seen this , thanks for reading glad it's not all gone to waste ! We spoke on Facebook so we chatted about it then , hope you love the noise !

  34. Have spent a little more time giving the meg some love , it's had another oil and filter just to keep update , I like to keep on top of them and make sure the history is update as best I can !

I I also put the gearbox oil in that's been sitting next to my toolbox since the dawn of time !

Titan sintofluid 75W 80 , recommended by opie oils

seams ms to have made the box feel a little better , still not amazing cold but a lot better once it's warmed up

Also after much debate I've finally bought some new front tyres ,

decided to stick with what I know , has these Hankook Ventus V12s on the clio, great tyres , wet grip rating of A so need throw these on and do the track rods and ends soon!

  35. You do know that your intake system is extremely inefficient right now? You say it has a shorter intake pipe, but it doesn't. I see you fitted a hose before this big filter housing as well, making it extremely long. A major downside of your setup is that the turbo actually has to work harder to keep that huge filter housing at atmospheric pressure, making it need to work even harder to create the same amount of boost, i.e. 'it has to suck harder' because of your small inlet hose compared to the huge expansion chamber, which you can call your filter housing. Having such a closed system with a huge expension chamber on the intake of a turbo is not wise and only provides downsides.

  36. If that's the case then why do car manufacturers add pipework to the original airbox if it is so detrimental?
Wouldn't they be better leaving it off?

  37. And it's not "Closed" there is a hole at the bottom of the "expansion chamber" to allow any crap and water out that might get in from the pipe.
Same as I did when I did the original airbox.[IMG]
