Alright guys, bit of a noob turbo related question hope you can help. Only got the car remapped in Feb by RS Tuning, and mainly been driving in fairly cold conditions (ave 4 or 5 degrees). However, last weekend it was around 11 or 12 degrees and went for a good drive of around 120 miles, had Torque Pro monitoring the ODB readouts and noticed that quite a few times on the drive the intake temps went up to 40 degrees (in the past its been about 35 MAX only for a very short time), taking it easy for a bit and they come right back down... anyway my question is, is this normal to have intake temps in this range while having a spirited drive?, or is this an indication that the intercooler is now not up to the job given the air temp was only 11 or 12 degrees? [Car 2008 08 on 72k, Milltek Cat Back and Pipercross filter & remap only engine mods]
I saw similar intake temps on the RS monitor with my 265 even with a uprated intercooler, for a turbo car if say that's pretty normal intake temps.
Yeah standard cooler is the issue. It isn't up to much with stock power never mind the extra heat from the extra boost the map creates
I have recently bought one off eBay from the seller Lolly and its spot on the build quaily is very good, and for the measly sum of 117 quid! You don't realise just how shit the stock item is until you remove it. I have not seen inlet temps of more than a couple of degrees above ambient even when ringing it's neck for a good few miles in this warmer weather. And it seems to have a bit more mid range torque.
This this the seller I got mine from, keep a look out the come up now and then! http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=151629398203
It's standard mate except for a modded airbox and panel filter, so the temps would go up with a map, but how much?! I
Thanks for the input guys - much appreciated. I'm leaning towards getting an Airtec...if its not overkill on a car that runs 250bhp...will wait a couple of days before pulling the trigger just yet
On my stg1 r26 i had a 60mm one i think, never saw more than about 2deg above ambient on road and on track peaked at about 6 or 7deg above ambient. stock unit used to spike to 60deg in one gear at full chat, watched loads of r26s lose power run after run on a rolling road and mine maintained over about 5 runs within 1-2bhp
Yeah nowt wrong with the 60mm ones, I think you need to do a little bit of modification with the airtec one due to the size of it
Hi Papps, I just tried to reply to your private message but your mailbox is full Regards, Jonny@TrackFocusDirect
60mm one on mine too and very low temps at around 300bhp. Airtec ones look good but why dont they make a 60mm one, 95mm is just ridiculous unless your running big power.
