Hi all in need of some advice. Went out to my 225 tonight, unlocked, started up then all of a sudden fault comes up on screen.... Electrical Fault... Managed to get to work but had no power steering, 1/2 power, wipers constantly on, lights constantly on, hazard lights on instrument panel lit up. I got to work and car wouldn't turn off using push button. Had to stall it but all lights remained on so had to Disconnect battery. ive reconnected battery to try and start it but nothing and all lights come back on, wipers, etc. Any ideas lads?? Thanks
Sounds like you have a short somewhere, take apart whatever is damp and dry up any connectors, disconnect your battery first
Disco your battery. Check the passenger side panel fuses. Also check the fuses under the bonnet near the battery. Sounds like water ingress.
Cheers lads. Much appreciated for replying. Ill have a look at the side panel fuses and also the engine bay fuses. if it is water ingress is it case of drying everything up and get a hair dryer on it all?? Thanks
I wouldnt hairdrier it tbh. Just let it dry out. Might be worth taking each fuse out one by one , drying with a teatowel , and coating in a very thin layer of vaseline.
I had the exact same mate after a night of really bad weather up here, water egress in the fuse box in the engine bay was the problem so I would check that mate
Thanks Chaps for replying. I I just went out to the car on my coffee break. Checked fuses by glove box, all ok. Checked fuses in engine bay and a little bit of moisture in there. Took all fuses out and dried them all etc. Tried starting car and fired up first time. Keenan, did you do anything to combat future problems?? Looks like it's gonna be frosty tonight so might wrap the fuse box up in a towel. Cheers lads
Is there a guide to clearing out the drain holes in scuttle panel. Think that will be the first job in morning when I get home.
If there isn't a guide, just search on here as the scuttle drains has been covered loads of times - very common issue. Briefly, you need to remove the wiper arms, then the shuttle panel to get at the two drain pipes. These will be at the lowest point on either side of the scuttle but they may be under a quantity of water. The bottom of these pipes will be blocked with crud which you can poke out but be careful not to tear the pipes. To stop the water in the door pocket, check the drain holes uunder the bottom edge of the door, behind the rubber seal which you may have to pull away a little. Does it look like the water from the scuttle has got into the fuse box? Glad you're getting somewhere with this mate, sounds like a bit of a nightmare. Good luck.
Might be an idea to give the engine fusebox a healthy dose of WD40 once everything is dry also, I have always found it very effective at keeping moisture away and preserving contacts.
Howdi lads Well after doing a 13 hour night shift then having to drive 13 miles home in limp mode I was determined to sort this bloody issue out. Stripped down fuse box and everyone was right. The dreaded water ingress inside PEH BLUE connector. Top right of the engine fuse box which is no doubt the fisrt to be hit with water from the scuttle area. Anyway stripped it all down, lifted PCB board from plastic holder and it was full of water, so armed with cotton buds, hair dryer and Vaseline I removed all water, cleaned the area, cleaned all plugs and terminals, smeared a fine coat of Vaseline on every terminal including all fuse blades and put it back together. Looked up at the sky and fired it up. Big smile as everything is back to normal, no fault messages, p/s back to normal, power back to normal so everything looks A OK. Much appreciated for your help lads.
Has anyone tried to make a splash guard aswell to help stop it ? cos ya never know when the drain holes are blocked til too late lol
Cheers Matt. Haha yes deffo mate. That's tomorrows job. Bolloxed now and bed time. Back on shift 7pm later.
Id like to know this too. Somebody must have designed some sort of guard / deflector as it seems to be a common problem.
I had this too. Ran without an arch liner though so it was my own fault. Got one in now and it's fine. Scary when it happens though!
