So, this morning I was up bright and early and decided to go for a drive before the masses clogged up the roads. [/IMG] I didn't have a plan - just thought I'd get lost in the Forest of Bowland. I've got to say the car isn't ideally suited to some of these roads, as many are unclassified rather than 'B' roads, so can be very narrow. They nearly always have high hedges too, preventing you from seeing across the corners. To be honest, the Trophy is probably too fast and a little too big for these roads. My old ph1 172 was much more at home here. Nevertheless, it's literally on my doorstep, and I wanted to try out a feature of the Trophy that I've yet had chance to... RS Monitor Replay. For those that don't know, this is a basic telemetry recording system built into the car as standard. It records: time speed throttle % GPS coordinates for lat. & long. G-Force in lateral & longitudinal values temps for external air, intake air, coolant & oil yaw-rate steering angle brake pressure BAR boost pressure BAR torque NM all 4 wheel speeds (but not sure on the units) revs power PS distance KMs gear [/IMG] Once you have selected the RS Monitor app on the screen, you can start recording the various parameters as long as you have a USB stick in the drive. It will carry on recording for as long as you want seemingly, or until you turn the ignition off. 20 minutes driving was <2MB. Once you have this file, you upload it to http://www.renaultsport.com/rsreplay/ This will transform the data into a re-run of your driving, using bing satellite images, which are zoom-able. The data is displayed in real-time as you replay your drive, with the same graphical representations you get in the car. The difference here is, you can actually watch them without risking crashing as you would whilst driving. The replay throws up whereabouts on your drive you pulled the most lateral G's, highest speed and most brake force applied. They're warnings on the site that this could lead you into trouble if this is on public roads, and that Renault are logging your IP address to help with any law enforcement that may be necessary, which is very nice of them. You can also export the data as a CSV file to use in excel, should you so wish. Doing this abviously allows you to sort the data high-to-low etc. which if you're a geek like me could be hours of fun. [/IMG] Like I said, this is the first time I've used this feature and I've got to say it's fantastic. There is another aspect of this that can be used in car for the track-day enthusiasts and that involves uploading a GPS map of the circuit to the USB stick in car, which will then allow you to time laps using the built in stop-watch. It's seriously impressive for a geek like me and really was a significant 'pull' to me buying the car over anything else. I understand that it's not on a par with a proper motorsport data logger, but to me, this is Nissan GTR/F1/Sc-Fi stuff, in a Renault that I can afford, and I love it. [/IMG] [/IMG]
Nice write up - and great pics - the car does look great in this colour. The toys look great - it is a hell of a lot of performance car for the money
Not even looked at the RS Monitor App yet. But looks like I will be taking a USB stick on my journey tomorrow.
There is so much to these cars that it will take you a while to fully get to grips with everything. Deffo have a USB stick of some sort in there, but I recommend: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00LLEODCK/?tag=rsmeg-21 USB 3.0 and 64GB for 20 quid!
A bit technical for me, car looks like a lovely bit of kit, where abouts are those pics? Anywhere near the newdrop?
Haha that's awesome dude ... and I had no idea that feature existed haha I've got a USB in as standard for my music, so will defo be using this!
Well rs-replay is great fun. So much info. There is one downside to it. My time in relation to the journey this morning took twice as long as usual. 30 minutes driving and 30 minutes watching the replay.
I've never been a huge fan of the newer Meganes but yours looks lovely in that colour. I even like the decals on it. Perfect
Yeah, just near the New Drop Inn. The end point on the satellite trace is just a little west of there and the Town to the left is Longridge. Fantastic I know, me too. Good job it doesn't record fuel economy  Thanks mate. I think I ordered just in time as they soon stopped offering Oyster Grey.
Thought I recognised it, some cracking roads out that way! Agree a clio would be more suited to them though.
Good spot! I didn't manage to get anywhere near the cars potential on these roads and that takes a bit of the fun out of it. That wasn't the case with a 172
i get that 100% lol, you could ring the neck out of a clio out there, Megane would end up in the ditch if driven in the same manor!
