So I'm sure you all know I have a lovely example of an r26 but I've been eyeing up mk3 250/265's Which leaves me in somewhat of a quandary. Do I keep the r26 and spend money on the engine to get 300 bhp and have no bills hanging over me. Or do I plumb for a 250 which is potentially at the age of things going wrong. But is a better car overall? Any opinions will be listened to.
The only thing that puts me off is that I'll have to borrow (from my savings) and I'll still look at a 265 and want one lol.
do you mean if you had a 250 and saw a 265 on the road, you'd want one? I never feel that and not just because mine's tuned way beyond a stock 265, but because there's really a negligible amount of difference between the two on road.. both performance wise and looks. Aside from alloys and the spoiler, I don't think it's possible to tell the two apart on the road.
go for a 250. you'll have to spend good money on the r26 and get it beyond 270bhp to match one for pace.
I have a similar dilemma, except for trading old for newer- R26 with no finance but probably bills for replacing stuff or under warranty mk3 Meg with monthly outgoings! Let me know which way you go
As nice the the mk3 is, there's no substitute for financial comfort. Save the money you'd spend imo but then I'm old before my time
I understand what your saying but for me I got the financial comfort by going from a R26 to a MK3. The 26 was slowly turning into a bit of a liability, and with a new car, I have 4 years warranty and fixed monthly payments for which I can budget.
Thats the kind of thoughts running through my mind atm I am concerned about the unexpected repair bills - clutch, suspension, steering rack which are making me cautious about the R26 being a liability. It also not far away from being 10 years old but it's served me well so far.
I'd keep the R26 as some have said having the financial comfort is the most important. You have a nice car in the R26 and I wouldn't bother tuning it. Just enjoy it for what it is. As much as I love my 250 I still regret selling my 182 trophy over two and half years ago! Just keep it and run it to the ground and then by the time the R26 is finished / at it's lowest in terms of price then you won't even look at a 250 but instead be looking at a 275 trophy. Keep the 26 and do a few track days with it, some of the best days out you will have mate , and you don't need 300 bhp for that either, you'll learn that power means nothing.
