R26 standard turbo from an r26 on 63k miles worth?

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by wardyworld, Mar 15, 2015.

  1. Hi,

Am probably going to rs tuning soon for a 250 turbo, injectors and sports cat...

So I will have a spare r26 turbo on 63k. Is there a demand for these? Would anyone on the forum want it?

    Cheers,

    Wardyworld

  2. Might be worth asking over on cliosport, see if any of them want it for a turbo conversion?

  3. Thanks, will do. Just trying to recoup as much as possible from the 250 turbo build

  4. No worries fella, I imagine you will get a bit more intrest over there, could always try turborenault too.

How much did it cost you/ where / what work did you have done, pm me the details if you prefer.

What figures did you make in the end?

I'm looking to go the 250 turbo route this year at some point, would be nice to know a ball park figure!

  5. I've not done it yet; I was going to wait until September(ish) but it's now due a service, so with swapping the turbo, fresh oil, and all the other bits it seems like I should just go to RS tuning again, get them to do it all and service, and I should be ok for the summer to enjoy the power.

I am hoping for 300 / 300 - mapped to not blow the engine to bits. That seems like it will be enough for me - I don't know why but once I hit 300bhp I kind of think “job done”

Once it's done, I aim to do a build thread - I've done a fair bit now and would like it documented. As soon as I have it done (April I hope) i'm happy to put up graphs and share the specs! I'll PM you any details on costings you'd like

  6. If you wouldn't mind pm'ing me when you find out that would be great - cheers!

  7. Will do - I'm booked in for monday 27th April - can't wait

  8. Should see 300/300.
Mine got 295bhp at 1bar at 6000rpm with the 250 turbo, clutch started slipping so will get more once i fit a new one.

  9. I take it you will be fitting large intercooler, large injectors and 250 turbo to get 300/300?

I'm interested in the exact parts needed to safely achieve it

  10. I got 313 / 325ibft

  11. Is yours forged Andy?

  12. From what I remember reading it's not forged no, standard internals

  13. Airtec intercooler, siemens injectors, forge recirc with blue(?) spring, ktec cat back exhaust, ktec induction kit, 250 turbo and a 200 cell sports cat. 300 / 300 is the aim - nice reliable power without killing the engine!

  14. Yours has always been my benchmark for this work Andy!

  15. You are correct.

If it goes bang , it goes bang.

  17. I aim to get rstuning to put it on the conservative side, and wind it back to an acceptable level of tolerance - I can always go forged next year and get them to wind it up to max. I think 300 / 300 on a road car is enough (for me) to be honest!

  18. At 63k you should also budget for a new clutch, with more torque than std (up to 100lbs) it will slip as you will be using all the torque as it is just so addictive. After the upgrade I only managed a few weeks before it started slipping.
Budget anything from 600 to 1600 depending on what you choose and who carries it out!

  19. Yeah I think you're right. I was thinking standard dual mass and r26r clutch - its my daily driver, so I want oem+ - I hope the clutch lasts a few months then hopefully I can get fred@btm to do it. Been calling him but no reply :-(

  20. Keep trying Fred.

  21. I will - I did leave him a voicemail, but I don't need the service now, so I won't hassle him. I will wait until I need a clutch and brakes and then if I get no reply, I WILL hassle him! Lol

  22. No one likes a show off.

  23. That .5 is important. If mine made it, i'd say it

  24. Ok , I made 313.5 bhp and 325ibft.

Could have made lots , lots more.

  25. Lots, lots more?

  26. Yeah. Turned the wick down a fair bit to preserve the rod / block exit ratio

  27. I don't get how these people don't seem to get back in touch with you, seems good reliable mechanics are hard to find, I don't bother chasing anyone anymore, doesn't hurt for them to reply , just move on and find someone else.

  28. Normally I would agree, but Fred used to look after my clio trophy and he really is as good as people say. He might be on holiday or too busy to reply - plus he's 15 mins drive from my house and as it's my daily driver (and having a 2 year old to ferry about) future works such as brakes, clutch, and possibly forged engine makes my life so much easier. You do though have a valid point, a call back would have been nice...

  29. Fair enough - don't blame you, I will wuss out at 300 / 300 I think! I have no luck, so I don't really have any luck to push!

  30. They all seem to be the same mate, I just got sick to death of making arrangements to then be let down, it just causes you unwanted stress, Ive got my own roofing business so I understan that a simple call back can work wonders, luckily for me I've found a good mechanic with the same work ethics as myself.

  31. Fair play, I get you - I do - I've got the week off and so far have spent over 4 hours on the phone sorting things, you just do, don't you? It is frustrating, and these cars are our pride and joy, and I'm spending more on this than any other car ive ever and when someone doesn't respond the way you want, you almost feel like they don't care.

  32. Care ?, they don't give a shite mate I think it's the industry their in, I'll call you back in 5, yeh right, I just don't bother with them anymore their loss mate, I even over pay lol, you just need a good keen mechanic who's reliable and you would make a killing, especially on the Renault seen I've even thought of renting a unit and getting a mate of mine in their doing the work, allways plenty of people needing work done you would make a good living just off this forum.

  33. True.

  34. Not a truer word spoken. I had dealings with Fred and will never ever use him again. He may be very good at the mechanical side of things but his customer service is shocking he promised for months to post me various documents that he forgot on the day, I took him at his word due to his reputation, got lied too over and over again so just gave up. Won't be going back again

  35. That's not good. Any recommendations for the non remap side of things? I'm going rs tuning in April, that should give me all the power I need, but I was hoping to use a specialist local to redditch (birmingham) for things like belts, r26r clutch, maybe single mass flywheel, etc.

  36. you only really need a specialist for the belts all other parts can be done by a local mech

  37. I'm not calling anyone in particular, I'm just saying from my own dealings and experience they all seem to be the same.

  38. It's more so customer service that's the problem

  39. This!

We aren't dealing with a mclaren P1 here!

Mapping and belts maybe but general servicing, replacement of parts etc can be left to any reputable, well renowned garage.

  40. I know, I was mostly concerned with belts. But if I'm going to do belts, I would probably do the clutch too. I just think if you go to someone that really only does these cars then they will do a better job. I may be wrong, but that's my thinking. I have no mechanical knowledge at all, but in the area I work, specialists are better.
