Ebay locking tools

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Paula225, Mar 10, 2015.

  1. Doing a cambelt change on my 225. And going to buy the cheap locking tools on ebay. (I know they can bend and things). Just wandering if it says they fit a f4r engine does that mean it will fit the Meganes' f4rt engine?

    thanks

  2. Yeah I done my Clio 182 and my megane with the same tools. But deffo wouldn't undertake such a precision job with shitty eBay tools.

  3. What is the main problem with them? Is it just bending and things?

  4. Bending and tolerance

  5. I had to time up a friends 172 cup up, he'd attempted with his "cheap tools" and it appeared to be in but my Renault tools wouldn't fit as the non genuine shite had that much movement it it was unreal!

    Buy cheap, but twice!

Also don't forget you'll need the pulley holding tool for the pulley side to crack the cam pulleys off, you can't crack them off purely with the horseshoe

  6. Exactly you'll end up ruining the end of your camshafts or more than likely the tool will just bend and snap lol.

  7. What does it cost to get them from Renault?

  8. Also can the timing just be set with a timing light?

  9. Cam timing is set using the horseshoe and crank pin. The camshaft pulleys are fully floating and requiring loosening to get correct tension and timing whilst carrying out the change.

There is no marks on the pulleys or crankshaft pulley

  10. About 135 all in from when i bought mine in september

  11. If it is a Headgasket change would it made a difference?

  12. no none you need the kit

  13. I've got a genuine kit used once forsale £105 posted. PM me if interested.

  14. feck me.. there's a blast from the past. snap on timing lights..
