Hi all, still umming and aahring regarding this area. Can someone with a greater knowledge than I (shouldn't be too hard...) provide me with a comparison between the two aforementioned exhaust options in terms of noise/power gains. Specifically, would a Cat Back non-res exhaust (eg Milltek) be louder/fruitier than the mid-box chop? Also what sort of power gains could I expect from an exhaust? I don't want to re-map, fyi. Thanks all

Gain from an exhaust, Nothing you will notice. They sound very similar tbh, I have just stuck with my mid box and decat. I have no reason to go for a larger catback yet as the downpipe/oem cat is the restriction in the system.
I did the midbox chop first and it is well worth it for the money, then I had a non res miltek and it did not sound much different maybe a little deeper, now I have had the miltek rear box changed to a smaller power flow one and it sounds much better loads deeper and fruitier and still no drone and more pops and bangs depending on how sporty you want it sounding get the midbox chop then possibly go for a smaller backbox keeping the standard pipework.
Only got this crappy one need to do a proper one with the gopro on the bumper. http://vid2.photobucket.com/albums/y13/cliomark/RS 250/Modded milltek exhaust_zpsfal3eh4j.mp4
It sounds great from inside the car, pops and bangs like nobody's business. It's a bit tractory from outside though and sounds worse when cold. It doesn't drone at all on the motorway. I had the mid box refitted after a year as I got a bit bored with the sound, and was surprised how quiet it made the car. I then had a miltek decat fitted and was surprised how loud that was! It isn't much quieter than the double box chop and is actually louder inside the car on boost, but the overall note is a lot better. If you know a friendly mot tester then it's a no brainer, either box chopped and a decat will give you more noise and some gains too.
Yeah itll sound like a tractor i chopped the rear box on my r26 and it was great, loud pops from the exhaust but still passed track limits fine all the aftermarket systems bar the supersprint race system have the same size backbox as std just the middle box chopped out hence why they sound very similar to those with just the mid chopped basically chop the mid or if you want noise get a system with a small box or decat it
I started with the Midbox chop, Sounded great. Then had the Decat put on and the rear box removed. Sounded grim. Smaller box in place now similar to the Supersprint race box. Sounds fantastic now and much nicer than any off the shelf catback IMO. Actually makes the F4RT sound half decent.
Don't have one of my current setup but i have one on my youtube channel of the Decat/Midbox delete with the stock rear box. Sound quality isn't th best though due to the poor GoPro internal mic www.youtube.com/zsjamie
That sounds great! Will a longlife centre put a smaller back box on? I'm getting my midbox chop next week.

I was going to go for a full system (midbox chop) But think I might just go decat, sounds nice as it is
