250 Oil filter removal tool

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by -Chris-, Mar 8, 2015.

  1. After changing my oil filter last week and having to get it off by crudely with a screwdriver, because it was soooo frickin tight, I'm gonna invest in a proper tool for next time.

I like the idea of those cup things that you ratchet off. I've got a spare filter in the boot but before I venture out into the rain to check, does anyone happen to know what size I would need?

Its a completely random link I've chosen but this is the thing I'm on about......

I have one of the chain type removal tools and it comes off every time with it, I know its not quite what you were after Chris but it saves having to get different sizes for different filters on different cars

  3. I use oil filter pliers, they're brilliant

  4. I was considering a chain too, jamie. £3.50 delivered from ebay. I'll get both tbh as I have 4 cars to service lol.

The filter on the megane is in quite a restricted area. I thought the cup would make it easier.

  5. That cup tool will only fit a filter with edges on it, lot of filters are smooth, the filter is in an horrendous location and tips oil all over water hose, down engine side, all over chassis cross member and all down your arm, better off with chain or purpose pliers

  6. I can confirm this is 100% true!
