Megane 250 cup pack how do I check the full spec?

Discussion in 'Megane Discussion' started by Rocketron, Feb 23, 2015.

  1. Hi guys

New to the forum and soon to be a proud owner of a 250 ff with cup pack, what I'm unsure of is if it has the rs monitor, it doesn't have the light package but I'm curious if I can select different throttle maps.

I don't collect the car until later this week and the dealer doesn't seem to know much about renault sports so im wondering if there's a way to check full spec using chassis number or reg?

Anyone able to guide me in the right direction?

I don't know if this helps? In hindsight I should have spent more time fiddling with it

  3. If on ignition the centre screen says renaultsport its got the rs monitor, if it just say renault its not got it.

  4. Thanks Ryan, I can't for the life of me remember but I'll soon find out, there's other ways to change the map settings though is there not? If it's not got the monitor how do you switch map settings?

  5. You can't.

Pressing the "Sport" button will give you the sport TC setting and the (quite jumpy) sport throttle map, and holding it down will turn the TC off all together and enable the sport throttle map. Other than that you don't have any control.

  6. Theres three throttle/esp settings on a switch right of the steering wheel below the blower. Normal esp mode, sport esp mode, sport no esp mode. The last one you press and hold the button and you will hear a beep and a message come up on the clocks. Sport esp mode is a single press of the same button. Thats on every megane sport, the rs monitor give you more options on throttle maps.

  7. So it is changing the throttle map, thats what hes asking

  8. Yes and no. It will change the throttle map between the standard, lazy map to the sharper sport when hit the button. But the monitor gives you the option of several different maps when you use that sport setting (Extreme, Sport, Linear, Progressive and Snow). Without the monitor, you have no access to those finer settings (which I think is what he was asking about)

  9. You guys have covered the info I was looking for thanks, I was aware certain maps could be changed without the monitor just wasn't sure how. One more question, the shift beep, is that something that operates all the time like the clios? Or does that change with the different sport settings?

  10. It's permanently active I believe. If you car has the RS Monitor, you can adjust how many RPM before the redline it'll sound at - but there's no way of turning it off. I'm not sure that the setting is on cars without the monitor.

  11. Ok cool thanks mate, just like to get a bit of input before I collect it, I'll have a fair journey home so I'm sure I'll figure out all the gadgets by time I'm home.

Nice read that sometimes you hear the diff on tight wet turns, I noticed when I was test driving it (horrible weather) I could hear a slight knock pulling away with wheel turned, hard to describe the noise but it sounded similar to what my Impreza P1 sounded like, that just tyre scrubbing or possibles engine mount? Probably being paranoid, it's only done 12k

  12. That would be the lsd, its the wheel trying to slide slightly

  13. Mine doesn't have the RS monitor, so I just have to live with the shift beep for eternity. I don't mind it though... it did help when I first got the car as the Meg revs out a lot quicker than a 7 speed Boca!

  14. I don't mind it either to be fair, I did bounce it off the limiter a couple of times with being used to the clio taking longer to creep up the revs and rev higher, sure the sales rep was starting to get twitchy in his undergarments.

I'm really surprised the lack of difference in fuel economy compared to the 197, they're much the same.

Do you guys use super unleaded? I always use momentum or vpower in the clio but i suspect when they put their typical £25 fuel in for me collecting it'll be 95ron, shouldn't be an issue?

Not so much the LSD, The amount of castor it runs and the wide track contributes to it, The non Cup pack Sport I've driven also done it.

To the OP, Normal fuel will be fine. I have to use it now and again, Just won't feel as eager or smooth without super.

  16. I use normal fuel all the time, I've never noticed any difference between it and super (in regards to economy or feel).

You'll also notice the tyres will hop around a bit when it's on full lock (especially when it's cold and wet). It's particularly noticeable when you're on 2- 4mm of tread
    .

  17. Suppose it's all part of the experience, getting eager to collect it....shame I have to wait until the weekend to drive through and get it, meanwhile I can't help but look at possible upgrades.

What's the first mods you guys recommend? Dump valve? I have thought about it but I'm not sure if I want to start toying with it just yet, panel filter maybe

  18. Mine's absolutely standard aside from brake pads and fluid, and has been since I bought it over 4 years ago.

If you're doing trackdays I'd definitely recommend better brake pads and fluid as the standard items start to fade quite quickly. For road use the standard pads are fine.

Power is a personal thing, but I've never felt the need.

  19. I feel power is more than enough, like yourself ive always beefed up the brakes, so much so that after test driving it, when I jumped into my clio to leave the garage I over stomped the brakes and jolted to a hault leaving the garage, musta looked like a right t*t, the brakes are being replaced on the megane as we speak though, renault ferrodo's, plus I doubt they'll change the fluid but I'll do that myself. What fluid works well with these? Used to flush the clio through with ate superblue but ended up having issues with dry seals in clutch slave, motul?

Superblue is fine, I ran it for well over a year with no issues.

I use SRF now though as the pads i use generate a LOT of heat and i was boiling the ATE stuff and getting a spongey pedal. Bit of a PITA when you have to bleed some fluid through your callipers throughout the day.

Decent pads/Fluid is all these need, I wouldn't bother about power for now. Learn the car and how to exploit the chassis to its full before you go chasing figures IMO. I would stick my neck out and say i enjoyed mine more on the road with stock power, Slower and less chance of instantaneous licence loss

  21. CL?? I had bother with them leaving deposits then the pad material came off the backing plate completely

Ive ran both compounds in mine and had no issues with pad deposits. Unlike the DS2500's which are a terrible pad.

The RC5+'s i had did fall apart but they did have very little friction material left and were used throughout the cold and wet winter, Which a lot of high performing pads do not like

Wasn't boiling the fluid with them though as they didn't run that hot compared to the others, IE Pagid RS and Carbotech XP series pads.

  23. In all fairness it was over the winter they failed on me. Rc6 fronts and rc5+ rears, amazing stopping power u have to say.

I've ds2500 in now but they fluctuate in performance so much by temp change, I could be blasting down a straight for a few moments and it would be enough for them to loose their bite

I don't rate the DS2500 at all. Horrid pad IME.

  25. Fluid wise I used RBF600 which is fantastic on track. Combined with the CL5+ I had no fade at all - but after also having the pad fall apart, I wouldn't go for CL5+ again. The car only sees road use now so I'm back to the standard pads and Castrol React fluid, which seems fine.

I've just passed 32k and the car is still on the original discs, which I think are finally going to be replaced this year, just for peace of mind.

  26. 32k and had some decent track use with sintered pads?! That's good going, my CL's seemed to eat through new discs in no time at all!!

I'm gonna bore you all to death with questions but how does your gearbox feel?? Compared to the clio the megane feels very tight, short throw but an almost mechanical feel, second to third felt like I had to give it a little push, obviously with so little miles the syncros are fine but it did feel a little tight, is that normal?

That is good going, I'm on my third set now. 51k miles

Box can be a bit tight when cold, I have to double declutch sometimes to get it into 1st, Well not properly double declutching but thats the best way i can describe it LOL

  28. Yeah, I think I did about 5 trackdays and about 12 laps of the ring. Not excessive use, but the car got a decent hammering each time.

I've always quite liked the gearbox. Very smooth, and I've never felt it to be notchy at all. I think I preferred the feel of the old IB5 box in my Fiesta ST, but it definitely feels less notchy than a Subaru box for example (though not as direct in the feedback you get from it - it does feel a little disconnected, though that's not really a bad thing for a road car).

  29. Suppose it was cold, also the car had been in the forecourt without much use, definitely a remarkable improvement on the clio boxes, they seem to be made of cheese.! How strong are they? Any reported issues of syncros or clutch problems?

IB5 is a brilliant box, On of the best IMO. I loved the one in my ZS as well! My brother has just got a new ST which has an IB6 box and again, Its superb.

Ron, Boxes seem strong enough and the clutches seem to be able to take up to 380ft/lbs which is Hybrid turbo levels of torque. My Flywheel/Clutch did have to get change last year though on around 32k IIRC but we are not sure what caused it. Could of been down to a poor map but i will never know.

  31. I always use momentum. With the car being mapped I genuinely noticed a difference on standard 95, so won't be using it again

  32. Glad to hear it, I don't plan on going power crazy for a while if at all, I need this car to last a couple of years trouble free at least.

A bad map causing clutch/flywheel issues? Over boosting or something? Too much torque?

I would however like to improve on the exhaust note without being overly loud, what's a good cat back system that doesn't drone? I'll miss the akrapovic on the clio but i can't budget for that this time round, also would it need mapping for a cat back?

  33. I'll top it up with momentum after I pick it up, sure £25 worth of 95 won't even get me home anyway.

  34. -Jamie-

    -Jamie- RSM Moderator

Just a shite map basically, Too much torque at once we think.

Exhaust wise pretty much all the systems out their sound the same so i personally would be going for the cheapest. Wont need mapping for a catback and you also won't get a horrendous flat spot like in the Clios

  35. I'll know to use a reputable mapper of i cross that path, I have an rs tumer bought from rs tuning for my clio, I had thought about contacting them and buying a license to use it on the megane but I think I'd prefer a live map rather than a generic one for this.

I can get discount on the scorpion, would a cat back give a few pops and nice note? I'm really not into droney noise in the cabin

  36. -Jamie-

    -Jamie- RSM Moderator

Yeah a catback will give you so pops and a nice burble, Especially on sport mode

  37. Nice one, they don't seem overly expensive either

  38. Mate that sounds fapping awesome, what cat back do you have fitted or is that standard? Any mapping been done?

  39. It's got K-Tec's catback (which is Japspeed), panel filter and in house map. It's the most I'm going to bother getting out of a four pot for now as will be looking to trade up next year.

315bhp and 368lb/ft, so I was left over the moon! The difference from stock is hilarious
