I'm looking at getting a new system for the Trophy and want to fit a a de-cat downpipe - but I want the ability to fit a cat further down the system so it's a piece a cake to swap over come mot time.

Has anyone any experience of doing this? Is there any decent off the shelf exhausts that support this?

  2. I think Ktec do a cat (pipe) that you can insert further down a system . . .

  3. I bought one for a focus Rs ( I think it was a scorpion one) & had it welded into the part with the flexi section. Mine was fine, passed mot's ect & didn't lose any power. You wil have to extend the wiring for your lambda 2 though.

If your going for a new system it will come in sections so after removing your cat and before fitting new system have a copy of one of the sections made with your original cat welded in ( just as said above lambda2 wiring will need extending) this is popular on a lot of diff cars and is a good solution come mot most exhaust places would be able to knock up something for you.

  5. Hi, My car is going in to have the 3" de-cat Piper system tomorrow from K-Tec

    (link here: http://k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=3603&appid=12)

    with the de-cat pipe

    (link here: http://k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=4021&appid=12)

and then the "second" section (first section coming out from under the engine bay) can be removed and the "sports cat" shown here as the second from right in the picture

put back in for M.O.T's or when you want to sell.

It's a bit more expensive doing it this way than buying the sports cat system but worth it if you want to go de-cat!
Oh yeh and you have to extend the wiring for the lambda as mentioned in another post.
    Hope this helps.

  7. Might be worth mentioning and I don't want to p*** on anyone's bonfire but I'm sure I've read on here that with new rules for mot the cat has to be in the oem place.

    Correct

  9. Hi, Interesting point as this will affect me!!

I have just called three M.O.T stations and they have all agreed that so long as the cat is present and the emissions are correct it does not matter where it is located on a car of this age (08). Maybe the law applies to new vehicles but they were not aware of this either.
    Hope this helps.

This is where the mot politics comes in and starts a whole diff debate. IMO what diff does the location of cat matter as long as for the purpose of the test the emissions are within expected levels. But yes it's supposed to be in ome location (dep on how where mot is done. Cough cough lol

  11. ^ I agree. A test centre would have to be pretty anal to fail a car that passes it's emissions but fail it on the placement of the cat. However, I thought I best mention it.
