Hi all, been an avid renaultsport fan for some time and always wanted either a 250 or 265 megane. A few years back funds were limtied so I settled for a clio 200, which was great fun but lacking in power and a certain wow factor, despite being in my favourite color liquid yellow. After the third gearbox going in under warranty I saw the megane I have today sitting on the forecourt, with the exact spec and everything I was looking for (had to compromise on condition as there were a few minor marks to the bodywork and wheels etc but the price from the dealer was right after batting around some figures and agreeing to refurb the alloys/ replace rear pads and sort a small scrape on the front bumper the dealer was done. Apparently this car was owned by someone who used to run the renaultsport division in northampton so was very well spec'd but for some reason didnt bloody opt for the xenon headlights!! Its not perfect yet but getting there. Since purchasing it last December I have had the centre console repainted to get rid of a few nasty marks and the bodywork has had an overall (4 days hard craft with a claybar/ DA polisher and wax) but looks all the better for it, the pearl in the paint is far more noticeable now. Mods lined up when out of warranty next April; H&R lowering springs 35mm RS remap and airfilter Possibly some spacers 10-15mm Full exhaust system with sport cat Dont want to fettle too much as I love the car the way it is apart from a few blemishes i need to sort still. Let me know your thoughts people. By the way if anyone lives in the milton keynes areas Id be up for any type of meet etc
I've never had any issues from Renault regarding warranty and modifications - get on with the modding mate!!! Lol
Cheers all appreciate the comments Most of time/ effort has been spent getting the car back up to scratch (sometimes having a strong eye for detail isnt a good thing). One question- anyone with an arctic white megane noticed that the rear spoiler is not pearl but appears gloss white? To the guys who live huntingdon/ northampton area let me know when your free and ill arrange some kind of meet. Used to be a good following round here when I had the clio, so would be good to keep that going. One thing I dont like if im honest is the 19's. They look the nuts but negatively impact the turning circle and do no favours for the ride (recaros and cup suspension aside). When first viewing the car every wheel was curbed pretty badly, so I now crap myself whenever I have to perform a parallel park
Definitely need to sort something out then! Looks like Northampton would be the middle ground between MK and Huntingdon how does that sound? Corey- know of any good places to meet?? If money was no object akrapovic lol. My friend works at EMP performance in St albans, who build bespoke mandrel bent exhaust systems and there work is second to none. Great bunch of guys as well. They helped me out a lot with the clio and prices are great so its a no brainer
Yeah def need to get something arranged...I was considering a Milltek sports exhaust system, induction kit and then the remap but it totally makes sense if you've got a mate that can sort you out....I bet your looking forward to the results!
A few people on here have removed part of the mid section for a more entertaining sound track but not sure I fancy that. If you get the milltek would love a listen (youtube vids just dont do it justice) It has a half decent soundtrack as standard with a few pops and bangs once warmed up. One place on my hitlist of road trips this year is the evo triangle in wales. With these track weapons it would be a great experience (slightly ass clenching on some of the corners). Would be great to go with a few other enthusiasts
Yeah I'm hoping that the Milltek will give me the results I'm after, seen a super sprint exhaust system and that too sounded good. It will be interesting to see how much quicker the car will be with a re-map done, I'm wondering if K-tec will be the best guys to see?
What car are you driving? If 250, your more than welcome to have a listen to my Scorpio non red cat back before buying a miltek. I personally think it sounds better and it's a bit cheaper.
Through my previous experience with Miltek I have always found their systems to be of high quality but on the quiet side compared with other exhausts. Is this the case with what they offer for the megane?
Noticed you've said about the spoiler being a slightly different shade of white, ive got the same on my megane too!, Wasn't sure if my spoiler might of had a poor respray in the past maybe, but hoping a good machine polish will get it looking a bit better!
I've got a 250 so yeah it might be worth having a listen....Milltek are about £700 so a little bit expensive but just want a louder and more raspy sound...standard exhaust system is ok when it warms up on sports mode but just want a bit more!
Hey guys I'm knew to all this only had the car since November. Blue 2007 225 and I'm only up in Daventry Northants. Desperate to go for a meet and a drive with fellow meg owners. The only ones u get round here r vxr owners. Yawn lol
Hi guys Tom1- the paintjob on the spoiler at the back is definitely original but for some reason they are gloss and not pearl like the car (odd). NathRS250- the scorpion was a potential option and yes it does seem great value for money, so id definitely be up for hearing it in person K-tec system is good (i reckon they have teamed up with one of the larger manufacturers). 3 options for all around the same money £500ish 1) scorpion 2) Ktec 3) Custom. Intrigued to know how people have rated the H&R springs but retaining the original dampers. Had this set up on the clio with no faults at all (alot cheaper than coilovers). Simply put the Megane rides quite high and a 35mm drop is spot on, as for improving the handling I doubt they do much as the cup suspension set up is great anyway. Ditching the crappy bridgestone potenza's you get on the 19's would have more of an impact.
I paid around that for my supersprint race system and the quality exceeds all the others you have listed there for sure. And the fit is perfect.
Might have to look at the supersprint as well then What kind of sound do you get? Hopefully pops and bangs Just a cat back, or de-cat/ sport cat as well? Cheers
theres a meet at rs tuning 28th feb, maybe a little far though obviously in Leeds. Im not too far from you in Leicester. Same hardly ever see any megs round here.
It has been said in another thread, I don't think the K-Tec catback is their own.. Apparently it's Japspeed
Pops and bangs like mad, just a cat back, nice and deep and slightly louder than the others with bigger boxes. I had one on my 200 and the quality was absolutely abysmal, didn't fit worth a f**k and both the exit pipes were pointing at different angles. Lots of people had the same issue. I'd never buy another Ktec system. Not saying yours is bad obviously just my experience.
Pretty much every system bar the Akrapovic sounds the same on these anyway. Personally i would go custom or whatever was the cheapest off the shelf option. Would probably avoid Milltek though as it will likely fall apart after a while....
I have heard the same thing around Milltek which did surprise me as they arnt that cheap. Realistically few can afford the Akrapovic so its scorpion or custom route for me. EMP performance in st albans really are the dogs nads, attention to detail is far beyond any mass produced system. Being mandrel bent stops premature rust at any weld points and they can change the sound by adding or removing silencers, what ever you fancy these guys can accomodate.
