Remote ECU Mapping: Data Logging

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by papps, Feb 5, 2015.

  1. Alright guys,

Being up in Scotland, I'm looking at ways to try and avoid the timely drive down to RSTuning, but to have the best of both worlds and still get a custom map from them.

States on the RST webpage that remote custom maps are available as long as you can get 'Air-fuel ratio plotted against RPM', Its £72 to get on the Rolling Road at Star in Kirkcaldy (Best Reputation my side of Scotland) which put me off.....

Anyway, I have OBD transmitter and 'Torque Pro' and this can actually do the data logging for me, but does anyone know if this would still need a RR, ie to redline every gear in order to obtain the readouts that would enable a proper custom map? has anyone ever done something similar before?

All else fails I will drive down

  2. I'd to drive down to Leeds, even if it meant staying over for the night. I did a 400 mile round trip in a day to get my R26 set up on the rollers. Worth it in the long run.

  3. Is your R/6.R mapped rob

  4. No mate. There's no need.

  5. This.

I don't get why people try to scrimp on mapping. I've got a 520 mile round trip long day but worth it.

  6. Depends on the mods. If its basically a standard car I wouldn't care too much who mapped it.

  7. can't believe you just said that ,

  8. Why? Mine has a plug and map and its been perfectly fine for the 2 years that ive had it.

  9. Too many people get hung up on a custom map from RStuning.
There's a lot of good mappers in the country who are more than capable of mapping a pretty much standard Megane.

If you push the mods further then yes a custom map from a reputable tuner like RStuning.

  10. James , there are some good mappers. Unfortuantly the meg is a bit of a pain to map.

Mine had a map , a generic map. Ran sub 10AFR , ran hot , had 6 degrees of timing taken out and ran .2 bhp more wilst losing 25% mpg.

Took it to RST and it was perfect after.

  11. Sub 10 afr's, who did that?

  12. if uou cant make leeds simply use henks rstuner easy, if in scotland go to wallace performance or any other performance garage and send the readouts to henk himself. but if you can afford the journey and money go to rstuning

  13. Not a clue. Bought the car as a "stage 1" car with middle box chop.

Put it on a dyno as was curious of power ( independant of RS tuning at this point ) and they flagged up the crap power and AFR. Paul confirmed it without me telling him I had it on another dyno

  14. Booked in for next week  Fuck it

  15. Thats a shocking map then. Wonder what the previous owner said when he drove it?
I'll retract my statement that I wouldn't care who mapped it.

  16. I'd second the RSTuner remote custom map if leeds is to far to drive, henk is spot on with what he does, he needs the datalogs from a few wot runs and an AFR reading will help him skrimp every last bhp out but its not essential for his custom map

  17. what's required for an AFR reading? can it be logged from the lambda along with the other logs, or is a dyno and a wideband sensor needed?

  18. Wideband AFAIK

  19. I see.. how is that done when you go to RS tuning, etc? I don't suppose they take off the cat, and taking a reading after the cat would be no good, would it?

  20. Whenever I see cars AFR measured on a dyno. It's done at the tailpipe.

  21. A probe that sniffs the exhaust ..
