Mid box removal - Long term issues?

Discussion in 'Megane Discussion' started by The Mighty Clam, Jan 29, 2015.

  1. Hi all, I did search but nothing than answered my question specifically came up.

Following on from Sarah's comparison video I am interested in getting this done but I was wondering if there are any detrimental effecs for long term use? Will it burn anything out or mess anything up at all? Or mess with sensors ecu's or eml's etc?

    Cheers

  2. Doing this shouldn't cause you any problems and is no different from putting in a cat back system. By removing the mid box all you are doing is removing a silencer. All the sensors for exhaust gases are before the mid box so the readings they get wont change. On the Meg the only time you will get an eml is by decating it (but there are ways around this).

  3. Thanks, that's good to know. The other thing is that on the other threads people talk about cutting & welding, but wouldn't it be easier to just buy a bolt on straight through pipe rather than messing with cutting?

It needs to be cut as the stock system is one piece.

  5. Ah, well that would explain why then! Hmm, having second thoughts now, don't really want things being irreversible for resale values. Might just leave it as it is, I suppose I'm not 18 anymore

  6. Wont make a blind bit of difference to resale value.

  7. As above it won't make any difference to resale value. Also the difference is subtle on the 250/265's it sounds oem but deeper tone with the added pops and bangs. I'm 37 and I smile every time I press the go pedal.

  8. Yeah, well I suppose if you're interested in buying one of these anyway you won't be put off if the exhaust sounds a little louder. I may see if I can find a reasonable exhaust place. Seems a couple of hours work though, anyone know any south east / kent people that are decent? How much roughly should I be looking at for it to be carried out?

  9. I paid £60 and it took about an hour at fastfit in Basingstoke. Bargain!

  10. Did you have it cut and welded or cut and sleeved?
