225 I have no silencers.... (Help!)

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by gazmidas, Jan 6, 2015.

  1. Afternoon,

When i purchased my 225 i knew it had a nice loud exhaust on it, with a receipt of around £1,000 for a Milltek exhaust system. What surprised me was the fact that it has zero silencers in the system at all! Seems as though someone spent a nice sum of money on the Milltek system then paid for someone to chop out the rear silencer and weld in a straight pipe....

The sound isn't overly excessive, however I would like to quieten it down a bit if possible. What are the best options? As per usual money is a deciding factor, however looking at the system that's on it I am not sure I will be able to fit just a back box.

So ideally I need a cat back system that keeps a nice sporty tone without being raucous like it is now. Systems I have seen include:

    Scorpion
    KTEC
    Milltek

Does anyone have any advise / opinions on the best system to buy and the suppliers with competitive prices?

  2. £1000 for a milltek?

    Someone got robbed.

  3. I've got a ktec cat back and scorpion decat on mine, sounds perfect to me.

Not if it includes a decat/sport cat and fitting

  5. With him saying the sound isnt overly excessive I guessed it still has the original cat in seeing as he has no silencers.

  6. Just looked a turbo back decat system is around £650.

Do people really spend £350 to have one fitted?

  7. 6/7hrs book time @ 50per hour

  8. Bloody hell I'm in the wrong trade.

I did a decat in 5 hours on my drive with my limited tools. 1 hour of that was on a rounded bloody bolt.

  9. I agree! luckily i didn't know about the receipt when i bought the car - just found it in the glove box, so it didnt impact on my purchase decision  I am not overly confident the system on there is a Milltek, if it is then i am not overly impressed with it! Alternatively whoever took out the back box did a rubbish job....

Is there an easy way to tell if it has a different cat on it?

I don't thrash the car much at the moment as I am waiting to get the long overdue cam belt done. I am planning on going to Diamond Motors at some point, so maybe they can tell me more about the car then. Bought it in a bit of a rush which is always a gamble!

  10. 5 hours for decat fitting????

  11. Surely it would be a lot easier and cheaper just to get a back box fitted on whatever system you have now?

  12. It was the first time I've done one on a petrol megane and if it wasn't for the rounded bolt, messing about finding tools in my shed I would of done it in 3 1/2 hours.

Now I know whats involved and what tools I need I reckon I could do another In 3 hours.

  13. Have a quick look down the back of the engine.

Only picture i have of a Standard cat.

  15. I haven't attempted it but didn't expect that.

  16. From what i have seen the previous owner or whoever removed the back box then welded directly to the existing silencer - so it it now in one piece. Therefore I think my best option is to go for a full cat back system.

  17. Its a proper piss about. You have to remove the driveshaft which is what takes time and pulling the bloody cat out once it's unbolted is not fun.

just get a centre box put in, thats a cheap option.

  19. I am planning to go and see a company called Custom Chrome in Nuneaton at the weekend, see what options they give me. has anyone heard of or used them before for a Megane?

  20. If you do go ahead with them pal let me know as I'm only in Coventry and it'd be good to have another exhaust option
