Hi Guys Whats the best practice for this? As a rule of thumb I have generally always tried "under 3k rpm for first 1000 miles, then ease it in" ... does that sound about right? My friend mentioned today as well about changing the oil after a certain amount of time, to get rid of any of the metal filings from the engine etc? When I bought my Seat Leon FR years ago, the sales dude, said don't worry about running it in as modern engines can cope from the off??? Any advice on doing it properly would be hugely appreciated Cheers Tj edit ... just thought this might not be the correct sub forum to put this in its just it was specifically about my megane ...
Balance of probabilities it was dyno'd within a inch of its life in the factory anyway but i did same as you. I did 500 miles under 3k then eased it up every couple of hundred, by 1000 i think i was redlining
IIRC for the 265 it was 600 miles at no more than 3,500rpm and not exceeding 80mph. Sure it said the full potential of the engine can't be expected until after 3000 miles is reached. Think that was it. It does say exactly what to do in the manual but I can't be arsed going out to the car to get it.
I wouldn't bother personally, It will already have been run in before put in the car. If you really must i would do a hard run in though, I have always done this and have never had issues and always get a good strong engine by doing so.
I made sure mine was up to temperature before using the whole rev range. I didn't go bouncing it off the limiter at all, but I made sure it was used all through the range on most drives out. I did a trackday at 1000 miles and another at 3000 miles. It was noticeably looser and freer to rev by 3000 miles.
We've picked a brand new Clio 200 up with 7 miles on it took it 20 miles and did a track day with it, runs like a dream
