They are if you know how to drive them properly....

I have owned mine for over 2 years now, In Scotland, During winter. Never got stuck and that includes one winter with heavy snowfall running 245 section AD08's.

Infact, I was surprised at how good it was

  5. Jamie are you talking about a Mk2 or your Mk3???

  6. -Jamie-

    -Jamie- RSM Moderator

MK3, But the same still applies to a Mk2.

Infact the same applies to any car. In all my years of driving i have only used Winter tyres once, Yes they did make a big difference but if you know how to drive to these conditions then you can get away without them.

This is in proper winter weather as well, Not the weak sauce stuff the Southerners cry about

  7. Hey no Jamie far do's mate you have my respect at winter time, I was just hoping for abit more traction than my diesel s-type , cos that with winter tyres was still pants in the snow, and reading norven robs experience I was a bit disapointed, listening to you has cheered me up again lol

I would say you will be fine, Going by my experiences. My Megane is one of the best i have driven through winter tbf. Loads of traction, I think the diff helps massively

  9. Coming from a Tyndrum driver that's good enough for me mate, thanks again

    You know the place?

  11. Was a long time ago when I was on the way to going to Shetlands/saxa ford to work for 9 weeks , I remember staying near there and noticed it was like surrounded by mountains close to a national park, if it was the same place, if you can drive your megane there in the snow well that's good enough for me lol

Not sure mate. Got them for Christmas. Sent my mum a link to them when they were on offer at caraudiodirect a month or two ago.

  17. I had zero grip in any gear, tried 2nd/3rd/4th with pretty much zero throttle, car was on the point of stalling and still wouldn't grip at all. Normally it's into 2nd and let the car roll along over the snow just ticking over - doesn't work in my meg and didn't on my last one, not in those conditions.

Probably worth pointing out this was on snow that was wet underneath then compressed, so there was around 4" of snow sat on a bed of solid snow/ice.

Been all over the place in my wife's DS3 the last couple of days and never looked like getting stuck, high gear/low revs uphill and low gear/engine braking downhill. I only dared move the Meg back onto the drive today.

There were hundreds of cars abandoned here (Sheffield) overnight on Saturday, even on flat roads. As I was walking to get a tram (they weren't running either) I noticed most of them were cars with wide section tyres. I'd like to have seen anyone drive my Meg the 6 miles to work on Saturday morning, I didn't make it 100 yards.

  18. used my mk3 for the first time in the snow on the backroads the other day, must admit the traction was immense!

ESP OFF - RS MONITOR - EXTREME MODE - 0-62 TIMER - BOOM!! haha

  19. Ordered a set of NS2R's, EBC yellow stuff rears and CL RC5+ fronts.

  21. Replaced the pollen filter in my 225. I just need to remove the 'tree' that fell out into the footwell! lol

  22. I had some pressed plates delivered this morning after discussing with a local bobby whether they are legal etc....They're fantastic apart from the delivery company mistaking the words 'fragile' and 'please do not bend' for throw me about and bend to your hearts content. My neighbour signed for them so Im a bit stuffed now!

For £13 quid tho the quality excluding the bends is pretty good.

  23. Where did you get them from mate?

  24. Off of eBay mate from a seller called Europl8. He's sending me out some more

  25. Sorry that should have been Europl8r

  26. are they only legal with the gb i wouldnt want gb on mine just plain pressed?

  27. can't see any for £13?? just £20!

  28. I paid £20 for mine from them too. Top quality. Easily worth the £20

  29. The plates have to meet the usual standards with respect to font, size and spacing. They must have the suppliers details centre bottom and have the BS standard stamp bottom right. I was told that there was some change in 2010 that means you can have pressed plates but they must also be made of specific reflective materials.

The side GB is not required, you'll just have to have the round GB sticker applied to the car separately if you drive outside the country.

  30. I'm obviously a bit special this morning, could have sworn I paid 13 but after checking it was in fact 20... sorry guys

  31. Thats good to know might be ordering a set soon, cheers

  32. Drove it for the time in 3 weeks after being in South Africa...I felt good

  34. Had time to give her a wash, needs proper decontamination to get all the tar and s**t off though. 640fa468b3d6c50a5b8e814bd9d7a6ce.jpg 86c769a341d85866f30c980baafbc6e8.jpg 21af2901d57ae8bbb1336fa4cb44aa9b.jpg

  35. Installed new intercooler, put in new cold air feed as other one had perished from previous owners, and had an oil change with new filter. Also fixed washer jet as the front drivers side wasn't working.
