225 Excessive mist / water on inside of windows

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by lholand421, Dec 28, 2014.

  1. Hi all , I have an issue with the Meg. When ever it's raining or damp outside all of my windows mist up like crazy even with the demisters on . It's got to the point where I wipe just the drivers side windows with my sleeve and my sleeve is drenched and water still on the inside of the window.

I don't have any water in any of the footwells or door pockets etc.

Can anyone help me out ?

    Cheers all !!

  2. Mine does it too! I don't think it's a leak but who knows, it's a renault! Could be the water that sometimes collects in the bottom of the doors or something silly like that?

  3. got the same problem with the 250 all seems well sealed just mists up, i even used the rain X interior glass, stuff that boasts amazing antifogging and anti misting, which did help slightly but only lasts a week or so if its a cold wet week.

  4. Currently the car it just sat outside and it's proper misted up , my other Meg didn't steam up as bad as this one :worried: the demisters don't even seem to touch it either :worried:

  5. Is the carpet dry in the foot well compartments. Chance is that the scuttle drains are blocked.

  6. If it's quite bad get some silica gel packs, will help to dry the car out.
Some on Ebay, use them to go in storage bags for gas turbine engines to keep them from rusting.
When they are used just chuck them in the oven at 50 degrees for an hour then good to go again!

  7. Carpets are dry, but will check the drains  I may have to get some as it is really quite bad . Thanks guys.

  8. I would suspect that your pollen filter is clogged up and hasn't been changed at the service.

Some garages appear to not bother changing them because it's a bit of a crap job. They don't seem to bother telling people they haven't changed it either. I've had this with two different Megs and the effect is the most noticeable thing about the entire service to be honest. Cures the misting problem IME. You're basically getting no fresh air into the cabin.

  9. I had mine changed and it was full of various leaves and grasses! Hasn't stopped it though!

Mine always does this too, it's most annoying. No water getting in that I can tell, the windows have been fully cleaned and I've had a good drive to clear the air out. Swapped my pollen filter today so it will be nice to see if that makes a difference, but maybe it's just a megane thing?

  11. This. I had the misting issue on my r26 and it was blocked scuttle drains, cleared and never misted again!

  12. The carpet may feel dry on the top but that is because it is rubber backed. Lift the lid on the carpet trays & press down hard in the trays. You should feel moisture if the drains are blocked.

  13. Cheers guys, going to attempt to unblock them tomorrow. Anything I should know before I try to unblock them ? Tips ?

not really its quite simply. the only you may struggle with is the wiper arms, sometimes they are hard to release from the spindle.

spray them with wd40 and let them soak. if not something like this will release them

  15. Thanks Matt , appreciated

  16. One more thing to note when attacking the scuttles, there's a little rubber valve on the bottom of the scuttle pipe. On mine these corroded shut, probably best to get rid all together.

  17. They are blocked lol , where is the bottom of the pipe ?

  18. So I had a look today and both drains are totally blocked no water at all going through. What would be the best thing to unblock them with as I'm sure they have a bend in them ? Could I stick a jet wash down them ?

Where is the bottom of the pipes ? I have had a look and the water seems to drip from the mudflaps but cannot see the pipe ending.

Guess I'm going to have to take the interior out tomorrow now :/ best way of drying it out ?

Thanks for all your help guys !!

  19. I did mine today. Im definitely no mechanic.

Wipers came off and on ok. Getting the plastics back in was a bit of a pain. I noticed that the drivers side drain had a rubber valve. That was sealed up and nothing ran through. Needed a good poke...

    Time will tell now.

  20. The passenger side scuttle comes out behind the wheel arch and the drivers side somewhere between the wheel and the sump. I had it up on a ramp so it was a lot easier to get to.

I just used a hose pipe and an air gun to clear mine, probably best to clear them out every couple of months so the water doesn't come into the car.

    Good luck mate.

  21. This is the best thing that I've found

They have them at pound shops

  22. Cheers guys, I've not noticed any water inside the car but I am going to take it all out just to check

  23. Sounds mad but i used my dipstick when i did mine, did the perfect job!

  24. Sounds just like the thing needed for the job ! may have to use it
Just seen something on Megan's sport.net about a drain behind the ac unit in the dash ? Would it be worth checking this out as well ?

  25. Oops, just got annoyed and pulled the drivers side one out ! Don't think I would have had a chance in he'll if unblocking it. It was solid. Any idea where the bottom should end up and how to get it back in ?

That's never happened to any of us before @lholand421

  27. Lol, I have cleared the passenger side one now I don't know where the drivers one goes :worried: I know it's somewhere

  28. Managed to put it by the drivers arch, I know this probably isn't anywhere near its original location but it works and may be easier to clean next time

Probably going to be stripping the interior out tomorrow with a hang over :/

    Happy new year guys !!!

  29. Scuttle drains come out at the back of the front wheel arches behind the arch lining

That's exactly what I use. Although it's not good enough to unblock right down the bottom of the drain.

I have a NASA Spec tool specifically for this job which looks like the remains of a Laguna handbrake cable... It's not though, honest

  32. That £1 drain unblocker is the best thing I've found.

Just be careful that the sharp end doesn't puncture the quality rubber used by Renault.

  34. Had a look inside the car today to look for any water. I only found water in the foam in the passenger side. Non anywhere else so i dried the foam and hopefully all is well

The ac drip tray was empty too  thanks for all the help guys. I managed to unblock the drains by pulling the one out and clearing it and the other by using an alloy wheel cleaner brush  that thing was the best !

Onto the next job of my bumper that has dropped :/

With the scuttle off is it simply a case of sticking something long and thin down the pipe?

What tools are involved in getting the scuttle off and is it fairly idiot proof?

  36. To remove the scuttle panel you will first need to remove both wiper arms. These could be a bit of a pig if they've not been off in a while. I made a small puller to get them off but you can buy specific pullers for this. Be careful not to put any pressure on the windscreen as you could crack it. Another tip I found handy was to mark the position of the wipers on the screen before you remove them.

With the wiper arms off you can remove the scuttle panel. It will have a few of the plastic rivet type clips that may break but these are very cheap to replace from ebay. With this off you should see 2 black rubber grommets that taper to a hole at the lowest point of the scuttle - one at either side.

It's the bottom of these holes that will be blocked. They may even be under a quantity of water if they are really bad. Push something long and thin down them but again, be careful as anything sharp or using too much force could tear the pipes. I used a length of pneumatic nylon pipe that was stiff enough but not sharp and then when that was all the way to the bottom, I pushed a length of stiff wire down the nylon pipe.

You don't really need to remove the scuttle. Just either end, remove the 2 clips and pry the scuttle back enough for you to get your hands in.

  38. I'd worry about snapping or cracking it, especially at this time of year and and the amount of cajoling and manoeuvring I needed to get the pipe cleared properly meant it had to come off.

If you can do it without, then all the better.

Is it a socket to get the wiper arms off or do they just 'pull off' ?

Thanks for the mini write-up btw!
