Not very friendly those chaps. Maybe the aircraft carrier should be filled with more fighter jets just in case.
No sympathy for them or the crew. They, or a researcher, saw the Porsche for sale and built up a show around the plate. To say they didn't notice is utter bullshit. They are car enthusiasts and would notice the plate within the first second of looking at the car. They brought it all on themselves in my opinion. The childish joke backfired on them spectacularly. If the mob had guns instead of rocks, somebody could have been killed, then it wouldn't be so funny. I wasn't expecting much but it didn't meet my expectations. Time to wind the whole show up - Clarkson is an embarrassment.
it was ok, light entertainment, better than the crap on the other channels. i want top gear to carry on, harmless fun most of the time, the 3 of them work well together, just needs a bit of a freshen up.
It was the worst TG Special ever done tbh. Part 1 was incredibly dull and the only saving grace was the last 10 minutes of part 2. Argies have made themselves look very silly to the world. Shame about it, I was looking forward to it but it was just very boring.
Car was bought on a private plate apparently - see here was disappointing though overall - some of the scenery however was stunning !
People looking for a conspiracy will always find one. The odds of finding an interesting, petrol head type of car with that plate on (let alone a 928, quite rare these days!) are astronomical. People are free to believe it's intentional. And I'm free to call them fucking retarded.
Nice. Somebody in the team will have spotted the car for sale and noticed the plate. It wouldn't take long for them to think, "I know, lets take it to Argentina, that will be funny", and it grew from there. The plate has been on the car for years. Since when has a petrolhead type car mattered to them? No matter what car that was attached to, having seen it the seed was sown. If it was on a rusty old Escort, they'd have built the show around that. If you want to talk about odds - what are the odds of that plate out of all the millions that the DVLA have ever issued ending up not only in Argentina, but in the very city that the General Belgrano sailed from?
Have you not seen James May's interview about it? He is probably the only one out the trio that i have time for these days, he doesn't BS like the other two idiots either
So having decided on the location for the show, you're saying someone trawled through the thousands of cars currently for sale looking for that? Its a meaningless collection of random numbers and letters. If you decide to bestow meaning upon them, that's on you.
No. They will have researchers looking for interesting cars and trying to think up interesting ideas for the show, constantly. Having seen this for sale, the idea sprouted from there. The location chose itself after seeing the plate but may well have been on the cards already. I'm sure at any one time they have lots of ideas of locations and 'stunts' for future use. It's not a meaningless collection of random number and letters at all. This is what the entire private plate industry is based on! Anybody that is into cars regards the plates as more than a random collection. This is the reason that the show had the extra plate BE11 END made up, which would have been a continuation of the joke the entire show was based on.
It's not a private plate. The bell end plate was made up in Argentina. I would of thought area 51 would take up enough of folks time.
I watched it on catch up last night and they clearly flaunted the number plate. Close up shots of clark sons number plate and none of the others says it all. They can deny it all they like but They knew exactly what they were playing at. I would like to think their arrogance won't continue after the stoning they got but the situation saved an otherwise dull show.
I know it's not a private plate for pities sake. Whichever way you want to cut it, that plate ended up in Argentina on purpose as a stupid Clarkson joke about the Falklands War. The producers say they didn't notice the connection and that is utter bollocks. All car enthusiasts look at the plates on cars they are interested in. Clarkson is into military history - has done documentaries on the subject and I think his wife's great grandfather won a VC so he knows full well what H982FLK means. The bellend plate was gong to be fitted towards the end (for the football match?) as a continuation of the license plate joke that would have featured throughout the entire show. Obviously since it all blew up in their face, the joke was removed/ended up on the cutting room floor.
topgear is ace and even if they did search for a car with that number plate, who gives a shit. It's a TV program and if you don't like it don't watch it, simples.
so if I drive a car thru Germany with 39-45ger plate on it I am going to get stoned am I ???? good grief get a life, those argies should ...........
Wouldn't bother with part 1 at all, just type in to youtube 'car gets stuck'. does anyone know when the series starts again?
They haven't said they are doing another series yet. The way that special went they shouldn't bother.
Oh have they? Apologies then i have been away with work with limited internet access. Well lets hope its better than the Special, It can't be worse tbh
Think they should just make more specials great family entertainment we just watched it again it was that good and the kids loved it
Complete garbage, same tired old jokes rolled out again and again. As for anyone that thinks a number plate on a car driven by Jeremy Clarkson that reads H982 FKL, is taken to Argentina and driven to where the Belgrano was launched from is a coincidence, then has the cheek to call people who say it's obviously a setup, retarded...... Fuck me can I sell you some magic beans?
I really enjoyed it. Without Top Gear, cars on TV is non-existent. They're wind up merchants and yes they went too far this time.. It was still very entertaining to watch and some of that scenery was mind blowing. The Falklands are ours though right...?
yes it's a British overseas territory -argies invaded it in 1982 and then colonised it for a couple of months then Britain sent forces over to reclaim it.
They only had the rear plate on by the end of the show anyway as the front plate fell off going off road.
