Hi I've got a R26 and just wondering what oil would be best I have seen and heard good reviews with Elf Evolution 900 sxr 5w40, what's your opinions? Thanks
Anything fully synth and at 5w40 is fine. A lot of rumours, opinion and myth with oil. I used to use Motul 300v, think I'm on carlube now. Can't remember if it's that or something else that Fred put in. Funnily enough as he was putting it in we noticed the codes and packaging were from shell... Make of that what you will.
i buy my elf oil from here https://www.nielsencdg.co.uk/acatal...NAULT-RN0710--5-Litre-TOT_194877.html#SID=796 ive just changed my oil and used shell 5w40 http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-68976-s...thetic-engine-oil-recommended-by-ferrari.aspx
I'm sure it's around £27 for 6ltrs delivered mate also get your filter from him at the same time, I change my oil 2 times a year so no need for expensive stuff imo
On the contrary imo, You used yours hard on track. Personally i would be using one of the top end oils for maximum protection for your engine and components. Like Nano drive etc
I know what your saying Jamie but that's what they built the car for with that oil in it so I'll use elf
No, they built the car for any RN0710 oil. And there's a lot of RN0710 oils with better specifications than Elf. In fact, there is a big difference between the old Evolution SXR and the new SXR 900... and Renault recommends both of them for the 225/250... so no point of thinking about "a engine made with X oil in it" The only point for using Elf SXR is the price. There's a lot of better oils out there for our engines.
Personally, I use Millers Nanodrive in my 250 Cup, change it every six months, regardless of mileage. My engine is noticeably quieter on tickover since I've been using it. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-73732-millers-oils-nanodrive-cfs-5w-40-nt-full-synthetic-engine-oil.aspx
Fuchs Titan Pro Race for me.. Any top end stuff like this, millers and Motul will be good! - Elfs hardly going to damage it either
Chip fat from Ted,s chippy down the road, strained first of course. Dont want any sharp bits of crackling flying round me turbo,,,,,,,,,
nah all bollox, if you do 4-5000 miles a year and change the oil twice a year even with half a dozen track days thrown in ELF is fine, Renault recommend it, they use it on the services and give a 3 year warranty on the car from new with as many track days as you like, how can it not be good.
as long as the oil is RN0710 it will be in warranty dealers probably use that motrio stuff anyway on services
Im with steve. Yeah there may be better spec stuff out there but i nailed my r26 for a few years on track with stage 1 map and never missed a bit and made healthy power and torque all the time. No need to deviate. plus even the elf new sxr 900 i got for about 30 odd quid deliv for 6 litres, bargain
people get sucked into paying 50-60 quid for 5 ltrs of oil , doing 1 track day then changing the oil again, pointless waste of money.
I also agree with steve, iv always used shell helix which is cheap enough from eurocarparts parts. Ideal for me as I change after a couple of trackdays.
