Back box chop pipe

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by paulashy, Dec 15, 2014.

  1. Looking at doing the back box chop on my rs250 cup and from what I can find on here people buy the pipe online and get it welded in place. The only pipe I can find is £170 surely people don't pay this for what is a bit of bent pipe with some brackets welded on? When people say they've had it done for £50-£80 is that including the pipe or just the welding?

If it's just for the welding does anyone have backbox delete pipe lying around they could measure for me as I'll draw in solidworks and take to my local fabricators as Im sure it will be a lot less than £170.

    Cheers

  2. I had mine removed on the 225, local place called EMP performance in St Albans did it for £80, they basically cut out my backbox and fabricated a bit of stainless steel piping in place.

  3. was hoping that was the case, Seen people say they have had them done at longlife and there is one near me so may give them a ring and see if they will fabricate a pipe in as buying one online is crazy money for what they are.

  4. Are you sure those people you are looking at haven't just had the Mid box chopped out and a straight piece of stainless steel welded in its place?

  5. Had mine done at Longlife. Box cut out and replaced with stainless pipe. Supplied and fitted by them.

  6. Me too, it was just a local powerflow exhaust garage. Cost me £80

  7. will give Longlife a ring and get it booked in then as £80 seems reasonable.

Out of interest Birchy how much did you pay?

  8. It was either £60 or £80. I can't quite remember. More likely £80.

  9. Cheers spoke to longlife they said around £80-£120 but that was an estimate until they inspected it.
