Hi, Just moved here from the older site and have an urgent issue as my daily is off the road. Aux belt snapped driving yesterday. Got it in the garage and the only thing wrong [apart from that] is the air con pump is seized and caused the belt to break. The mechanic says this WILL need replacing, and there are no shorter belts to re-route the belt without the air con. Is that right? I'm now searching the WWW for a replacement [which i think is part number 8200678499]. Any ideas what a new one would cost, I'm guessing excess of £400?! Other than that I will have to search/hope ebay can help. Any advice / ideas appreciated . Thanks
http://www.rsmegane.com/showthread.php?4043-The-Rebuild&p=48280#post48280 You can use a 7pk880 belt for a temporary measure. I used this belt when removing the aircon . Got the compressor in my shed if your interested.
Get a used pump and fit a new standard belt. If I recall you're a Lancashire lad so get over to Accrington to RSC for the pump and get a new belt. Happy days!
Just realised I wasn't subscribed to the thread! Ended up ordering a reconditioned air con pump for less than £70 with 3 month warranty. Can't complain too much. What is the other belt you mentioned from? Mines in a bog standard garage, not the kind which will start doing mods to belts and pulleys. I don't want to lose the air con anyway really. Doesn't the .R have deleted air con as standard? Is the belt positioning different? It's all ordered now, and only charging a couple hours labour which I'm happy with. Anyone else had their belt snap?
Search ebay for 7pk880. Came up for a Renault modus. You don't need to do anything but fit it for a temporary fix. I only moved the tensioner to add even more tension as someone said it might start to slip after a while.
I searched and got a belt for a Clio 3. TBH it would have taken just as long to order/receive that belt than the air con pump I've ordered. But, this is very good to know because if the air con packs up again it won't be getting fixed, it will be getting deleted! You know your stuff mate, what else does the aux belt drive? Is it starter, alternator, and air con? Cheers
Good. So hopefully there shouldn't be any nasty surprises once the work is done, as long as the battery can be revived
