Can the standard exhaust reach 300bhp? I've got 265 turbo,630 injectors , bigger intercooler and decat with standard exhaust. Will the standard exhaust hold me back as I don't want to fit a bigger one if I can help it.
With those upgrades could exceed 300, but would be shame to not replace zorst as that item will be restricting the full potential of everything else.
When does the standard 60mm exhaust actually become a restriction and how much bhp is a larger exhaust even worth?
I had a ktec 3" exhaust added to my old stage 2 decat setup and it made no difference on the rollers at RS Tuning
@egg cakes what exactly is the benefit of the 630 injectors and did it need mapping when you put them on?
Not needed on the MK3 unless your running a Hybrid turbo. MK2's need them as they start to max out on "stage 2"
But I bet that was standard cat aswell. The standard 60mm system with decat might be able to flow over 300bhp?
This is the kind of setup i'm thinking of long term. I reckon 290ish bhp and 290 lb torque is about perfect for reliability and drivability.
My car with std exhaust, airbox mod, 3" decat, hybrid, 630 injectors, Forge intercooler made 294bhp at 1.4 bar. Replaced with aftermarket exhaust and detuned to 1.1 bar made 297. Would highly recommended an aftermarket exhaust before you map.
Milltek cat back made 7bhp difference to my old 225 on the same day at RS tuning on the same stage 1 map. I suspect that gain would go up exponentially with a higher tune.
Mine has an RS tuning stage1 map, when I took it back for a tweak after having a decat fitted it made 262bhp on the first run and 272bhp after the adjustments for the decat. That's a standard exhaust with decat, back box chop and induction kit.
I'm running the same setup as you! I will go with a 3inch aftermarket exhaust...and if it's getting too loud I'll add a sportcat to the flexpipe. I've heard that 2,75 systems are often louder than 3inch systems...true story? I think u will notice a difference in higher revs with a bigger exh than with a std. one
I remember seeing on the other site that the 290ish bhp was with a decat, it just made it over 300 with a hybrid and a lot of boost, when the exhaust was changed they made the same/ slightly more power but with a lot less boost. I'l try and find the thread.....
Paul could only get 286 out of mine with the standard cat back (and a decat, injectors,hybrid..). It just couldn't get the heat out quick enough, down pipe was glowing orange!
Would be curious what boost that was running and if the same level could be achieved with a larger bore design. I should have got under your car Steve to take a look at the design and run. I cant image its that much different to a r26 exhaust in terms of design.
