Shortshifters...end of a era..we have wrapped it up

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by andrewjeffs, Dec 1, 2014.

  1. Well, after 2 years, the guys doing my shortshifts have finally had enough of people ignoring PM`s and holding on to Linkages for months on end.
They say its a waste of machine time to do individual linkages,as it simply doesnt pay.

    I sent 5 out 2 months ago,and have only had 1 back..so thats it.

If we ever get them back, the last of them will be machined in one go,then put on ebay.

You only have yourselves to blame.

Thanks to all the old school guys that bent over backwards to fit members linkages, but enough is enough.

  2. Sad news Andrew......best mod iv done and was well worth the 4+ hours combined trip to see you and our weekend away withe dogs.

  3. Shit... Harsh times for anyone who doesnt have one!

Sorry to hear it Andrew your short shifter was one of the best mods i've done to the car (As everyone says!)

Guess k-tec have the monopoly now

  4. I could quite easily take over from you Andrew with my next door neighbour who's an engineer, but to be honest I'm not sure I could be arsed with the hassle just to make him money for no or very little return for myself .

can't say I blame you mate, few bell ends ruin it :worried:

  6. Sad times. Best mod i've done.

  7. Ktec only or diy now then. Was a great mod and you even sent one out for me before the next person on the list before my ring trip.

  8. Absolutely gutted was looking to drive down in the new year

  9. Just glad mine was done so long a go. Great lads and many thanks mate

  10. Name and shame.

I'm perhaps one of them for the name and shame, had a linkage sitting here for 4 weeks now. In reality the way it's panned out it will be another 3 weeks before it's fitted.

The original postage got delayed by Royal mail which meant it missed when I was visiting my mechanic. In the interim I couldn't find a garage willing to fit it - not within a justifiable distance. I put a thread up on here and the only chap to reply unfortunately got ill so couldn't fit it for me. So now it will sit until I see my mechanic in a few weeks.

Such a shame Andy, sadly the injectors went the same way had 6 sets and only have one set now. Well done for making a great mod possible for people mate.

  13. This was a future mod for me aswell after reading how effective you all found it, please let me know when you are listing them on ebay

unfortunately cal this is the very reason Andrew won't continue, I don't mean to sound too harsh but you should only commit to taking a linkage if you can get it back within a reasonable timescale. these guys need a speedy turn around to stand a chance of making it a sustainable venture.

  15. Gutted too. I PM'd you a few weeks ago on MS as I wanted one fitting while my car was at Mark Blacks but never got a reply.

  16. let me no when these get listed on ebay, still waiting for a reply for mine to be sent to me :worried:

  17. Phase 1's are a simple diy job. No machining necessary, just remove the pivot ball and move it 20-25mm closer.

  18. Ohh good man jamie thanks for that

  19. Jamie do you just punch out the pivot re drill a new hole and mash the bottom of it again or it that threaded?

  20. Gutted to hear about this. Enquired about getting one about 6 months back but none were avaliable.

  21. I used an angle grinder to remove a couple of mm underneath then smack it out. Iirc mine was moved inwards 22mm.

  22. Need to remember that jamie, thank you

And it would of. If I'd had it on time, not delayed twice.

  24. Theres a white nylon sleeve thing that I drilled out 1mm larger and greased. You will see it when you take the mechanism off and strip it.

  25. There is a 14mm bolt hiding under the gearbox mounting. The rest are obvious.

  26. Yeah seen that in a guide somewhere

Shame this! Hope the forum finds someone to take it on worse case scenario as we really have a poor modifying scene.

  28. Like I say naith I can get them done but just can't be doing with the hustle that comes with it mate

  29. Deposits up front is the only way it can work. £100 quid up front, which you don't get back until the linkage is returned. Frankly think it's a bit pathetic that members feel it's acceptable to hold onto linkages for months on end, stopping other members from getting a short shift and affecting someone's business!

Yeh so we ideally need someone that can and isn't Ktec.

  31. What do K-tec charge

God knows but it'll have a lovely big mark up as per.

  33. I can get the linkage modified no problem, got a milling machine at work that I can use.
Been after a linkage arm for a while but can't get my hands on one. I use my meg as a daily so not really practical to use mine to try it out on!
If someone has one for sale I will happily take it off your hands and see how I get on, think I could do it no problem.

  34. The problem is that people me included buy parts then it raj s ages to get round to fitting them. I must have had my supercharger furrubf kit for 6 months before I had it fitted.

  35. Linkage £100 if he's still got it

  36. Is that for a modded linkage Steve? Or standard?

Real shame that there are some people out there that ruin it for others.

I saw that K-tec are selling a short shifter kit as well now. £238 though! Rip off merchants.

The whole actuator and linkage from Renault is only £120 apparently.
