Rs 250 Cup ?

Discussion in 'Megane Discussion' started by chefmatt1, Nov 23, 2014.

  1. Im looking at buying a Rs 250 soon and im interested to know is it really worth getting the cup chassis version are there any pros and cons about it im looking for a car with the optional recaro leather bucket seats wether this will change how comfy the ride is i dont know can anyone enlighten me on what the cup chassis does to the car ?

    Cheers

  2. It was discussed here several times. Personally I think you may pick one with Recaro, RS Monitor and LSD only if you will be attending track days. For daily use go for full fat Sport model (xenons, sunroof, sat nav, leather, 19").

  3. Stiffer chassis, mechanical limited slip differential and 235 width tyres instead of 225. Provides better handling but with a firmer ride.

  4. As has been said countless times, the LSD defines the front end grip on this car. You'd be missing out by not going for a Cup chassis car.

  5. As above, it was a must have option for me and puts the car onto another level.

  6. I agree with the previous two posts. The CUP chassis is a must because of the LSD. The ride isn't to harsh and i fine for a daily driver.

  7. I agree to

  8. Cup cup cup  I haven't got the RS monitor so can't comment on that, but having driven the both, you're almost missing the point of the car if you don't get the cup version

  9. Having driven both before I purchased one and coming from an RB320 its a cup everytime for me....

  10. Yep, I'd also agree Cup is a must have option, I'm running on 18's and I personally find the ride fine.

When I was looking for my car, Cup and Recaros (and RS monitor) were top of the list, I do think it will also make the car more desirable when selling on in the future.

Must have options/spec, Cup be it an actual cup of FF with Cup and Recaro's. It just isn't the same car without the cup pack, May as well get something else like the Focus ST IMO, Which is a better UK B road car

Anything else is just a bonus on top but they are the main spec i would be going for and is what i recommend to anyone who is thinking of getting one

    16k!? Thats 265 money

  13. I havant really found one of that spec cheap though im not really botherd about getting one with a sat nav just cup chassis leather recaros in either white black or grey no too high mileage things like daytime running lights and xenon's are a bonus for me really but not a must is the Rs monitor a standard option or an extra ?

    I personally wouldn't be spending anymore than 12/13k on a 250

  15. Can i get a decemt spec car for that ?

Ive seen several sell for that or less with Cup/Recaro's/Xenons, Might be slightly higher mileage mind you.

250 values have dropped, Theres a couple that have went for sub 10k now as well for a reasonable spec.

Ive just had a quick look on PH and theres 12 on there for under 13k, with a few just over it that i would bet you could haggle down to sub 13 easily.

  17. ktec pricing strikes again.

  18. Cheers for all the info ill keep everything in mind can anybody recomend places to buy a used rs250 cup from ?

  19. First place would be here last place would be a Renault dealer! (Not being sarcastic either) just keep your eyes peeled there aren't really many specific places that sell them. Pistonheads is generally a good start.

  20. Mine was listed at £12.4k when I got it. Cup chassis with Recaro seats. Just no RS monitor

RS monitor is more a gimmick tbh, Well the original anyway. The new V2 that comes in the new Meganes/Clio's is much better by all accounts

  22. The RS monitor is good for a few things, I use it to check oil temp and I suppose it could be used for lap times on a track day. Main benefit though is bein able to change the responsiveness of throttle. When it is changed to extreme it transforms the car and makes it a lot more aggressive. Other than that the rest is a load of toss imo.

  23. Agreed it is a bit of a gimmick I guess, but I always have it switched on. I also like having the option of switching between engine maps, I like to use 'Linear' if traffic is a bit busy as it's a little smoother, and then Sport and Extreme when it's play time

  24. We drove a non cup car with leather and plenty of options a couple of months ago , I walked away as I said I wouldn't never have another performance car with leather ,we had a blobeye Impreza sl with leather pack and you never had the confidence to push the car hard ,I did feel the megane seats wereore supportive but not what I wanted ,I'm looking/buying a grey 250 cup this weekend my spec was a grey cup with recaros and 19's , which is what I'm looking at ,car has done 75k and was advertised at £10k , as its due service and belts I've got it down to £9150 providing it's good . I was suprised how well the non cup car drove but having just put a LSD in my golf track car the difference is unbelievable so got to be a cup for me

  25. Thanks everyone for your info im seeing some of the cars for sale have a really high mileage whats the things to look out for when buying a high mileage megane ?

  26. It's worth it for the linear map alone. It's the best balance for road use in my opinion, the others being either sluggish or jumpy.

  27. Be aware that guys on here are bit "in love" with Cup version. They over-react when somebody tries to recommend Sport model, as more friendly in daily use.
As I say at the beginning, Cup is worth to go for if you are keen to attend track days. Otherwise go for Sport version as in normal daily drive you will hardly notice lack of LSD (if you drive in appropriate maner).
Get both versions for test drive, you will see Sport version handles very well. You will choose one more suitable for your needs.
    Good luck.

  28. I'm sorry dinn, I know you have the Sport model, but for many people, it will be the LSD that gives this car it's character. You don't need to be at licence loosing speeds to feel the advantage it gives. The 250 Sport I test drove on 19's felt no softer than my Cup on 18's either. Both are pretty good actually - in comparison to a diesel Insigna i drove recently, they're well well spring - that car was both crashy and bouncy.

Having driven non-lsd equipped cars and my 250, there is a very significant advantage to having that diff. If you're doing motorway driving, fine, you'll never notice it, but as soon as you step onto a good mountain road, you can feel the front end twitching for grip as you turn in and press on. I've had the car over 4 years and every time I hit a good road I remember why I've not traded it in for anything else!

  29. You are not in a posistion to comment that the Sport version of the car is more suitable for daily use because you don't drive one!!!

  30. Here we go. As usual. I know your "oooohhhh" and "aaaaaahhhh" about Cup and LSD business. However I would express my point of view, because I drove both versions.
I use my 250 as a daily car, I covered 10k since I bought it in February. I was driving it across whole England and Wales and never felt I lost confidence on a B roads because of lack of LSD. I tested Mégane Cup with Recaro, too. It is my opinion, Cup is perfect for you guys who goes for track days. LSD gives you more confidence when you "attack" corners, but remember that Sport handles the same and it seems have similar brakes performance (even with plain discs).

As I said, potential owner has to decide what better suits him.

  31. I'm not saying you can't have an opinion. But regardless of wheter or not you have driven the cup (which i presume was a test drive) you can't comment on it as a daily driver because you don't drive a car with the cup chassis. By all means give advice on how your car handles and how your car is as a daily driver.

  32. You dont only need cup/lsd for trackdays, mines a daily with 19s and it really its that harsh that people make out, and you dont need to be doing stupid speeds to feel the use of the lsd. Its all down to personel preference.

    Sport handles the same?

    Lol.

  34. It may look like 'oohing' and 'aahing' on here regarding the cup, but that is for a reason. It monsters the Sport handling-wise, they absolutely are not the same

  35. That's not to say a 250 non cup is not a good handling car, but if your looking for a better handling car then the cup pack is a must. If your in the market for one then this should be a priority for the best experience. Running on 19" with the cup pack on a 265 and I've never once had issues with ride comfort as it's my daily. But come 'b' road/track time the cup chassis shines.

  36. Tbh the Megane doesn't actually handle as well as say a Clio, it just isn't as nimble and adjustable.

But it gets round corners with the diff better because it has more grip and the LSD. Take away the diff and a major part of the Megs ability is lost.

I'm sure non-cup cars are still very capable but for little to no disadvantage the cup chassis is a pretty key option to the experience.

  37. Sport handles the same as cup, really! Then why the fcuk does the cup chassis even exist. Could be the xenon's you harp on so much about that makes your sport chassis handle like a cup!

  38. You are funny. I explained everything in my post above. I can see where it goes. Soon or later you will get to conclusion that LSD makes Meg as fast like 911 turbo, and Sport version may be compared with Skoda Citigo 1.0
You can believe what you want, but I couldn't spot that difference on a public road. If you can, please slow down, for sake of your own safety.

Maybe you should of just go a GT line or a diesel if you couldn't notice the difference then.

FYI, I have driven both on track and on the road and not just on a test drive. Massive difference if you can drive them properly.
