MÉGANE R.S. 275 TROPHY-R then Alfa Romeo 4C Seat Leon Cupra 280 Pack Performance Audi S1 Porsche Cayman GTS Peugeot RCZ R BMW M4 BMW M235i Subaru WRX Sti S Mini Cooper S
Im sorry, Regardless of how good it is you can't compare a FWD shopping trolley with the likes of a proper sports car ala Cayman, 4C, M4 etc. Anyone who would own one over anything else on that list needs their head looked at.
Must go like stink with that power, how can that be mapped to that and the megane can't , turbo size ?
Turbo/Engine. Lets be honest the F4RT is a bit of a dinosaur and tbh a bit of a poor engine when it compares to the rest of the turbocharged 2.0l 4 pots in the rest of the hatches especially VAG group stuff which has always been held back out the factory from what they can actually do
So can, dare I say, the M235i. The old 135i could anyway. And it has correct wheel drive and is not a part of the VAG group.
That's where the old 135i comes in. Booted cars will always look better than hatches. Shame there's no RS Laguna Coupe, they look really good.
Interesting list. I've been doing a lot of research into the 4C and the Cayman for my next motor and very surprised they placed the Alfa ahead of the Porker when every other motoring journalist says the opposite.
Talking of EVO - their Car of the Year Result: Ferrari 458 Speciale 70 F-Type R Coupe 55 Cayman GTS 51 Golf R 45 Megane 275 Trophy R 42 BMW i8 38 McLaren 650S 34 Aston Vanquish 29 M3 11 Audi S1 10 Numbers after are the scores given from 7 judges. All placed the Fezza 1st hence the score but 2 placed the Megane 2nd. Bad result for the Macca.
135i Coupes can see around 400bhp from basic breathing mods and a map, A friend has one running over 400 with 500ft lbs, Pretty quick. Great about them is a lot of M3 Stock suspension parts fit straight on to give increased camber etc and really improves the handling and grip, Just a shame your looking about 1.5k for an LSD Not the most reliable of things though LOL Hmm, 3.4 S is a properly brilliant piece of kit. If i go Porsche next it will likely be that as i don't think i can stretch to a GT3 just yet
IIRC the main reliability issues with them were the high pressure fuel pump and the waste gate on one of the turbos. BMW switched manufacturer of the fuel pump (from Bosch to Siemens I think) hopefully meaning that won't be a problem anymore, and the waste gate can be adjusted. Although BMW were replacing both the turbos under warranty. Shame about the LSD. I think BMW do it deliberately so thunder isn't stolen from the proper M models. Especially now they basically have the same engines. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=735184
Oh yeah, If they equipped them with even the option of the LSD they would be essentially selling a car thats quicker than their M3's. New BMW's don't seem to be very reliable at all, Lots of issues with the M135i's amongst a myriad of other models, not really what you would expect from a premium marque. My mates previous Renaults have been more reliable than his M135i LOL!
Bitter? LOL, Explain how so, just stating facts. Im realistic and not blinkered like a lot on here seem to be
People do forget and more often don't realise the basic engine designs been around since 2002 in f4rt form and in NA f4r form actually since 1993! I think Renault have done a lot with very little but its time is up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_F-Type_engine#F4x
Renault won several times in the past: – 1985: Renault 5 GT Turbo – 1991: Clio 16S – 1996: Spider Renault Sport – 2000: Clio R.S. – 2007: Mégane R.S. F1 Team R26 – 2008: Mégane R.S. F1 Team R26.R – 2014: Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy
What I really think is, all these car magazines aren't telling us how good the megane is for no reason, people automatically think the sun shines out vws arse, golf's are boring and always have been, golf r 4wd and driving aids to make you feel like you're not even Driving, bet it's thrilling.... but apparently that's ok because the dash feels less plastic than the meganes and you probably get heated massaging seats that wank you off while you're driving
Still waiting to hear why i am "bitter"? PS, have you even actually tried any VAG stuff, By all accounts the Golf 7 R is the hatch to have at the moment in terms of outright A-B pace and will be the quicker car on UK roads with UK weather.
Been ringing around for 135i but all sell real quick especially manual ones so far been offered 9k for my 2010 rs250
I don't think he was being deadly serious about you being bitter. If you criticise the engine that powers most of the cars in a club you can kinda expect a little hostility I guess. In truth though, how do you consider the F4RT to be a dinosaur? I get it's age, but apart from less than stella fuel economy, what's not to like? The engine can be tuned to output more, as many do, but Renault decide not to. Given the usually glowing reviews that the cars get you'd find it hard to say they're making the wrong decision surely? I haven't tried any fast VAG stuff personally but I do agree that the 7R does seem to be the hatch of the moment, and that's coming from somebody with 275 Trophy on order. The trouble with the Golf for me is it's just so dull no matter how dynamically well it might perform. It's also quite a bit more expensive when you spec it up to similar levels to the Megane.
I think something like the golf R is moving with the times especially given low emission band it sits in . iirc it has some radar detection device on the front which reduces the insurance band aswell, real exciting stuff But it all helps reduce costs which in today's driving is whats what it's all about. So in that respect yeah the Renault is old fashioned as it has nothing to reduce running costs and you can't even call the new 275 cheap to buy either. But it's more involving and more fun so it's down to personal preference.
Crappy gearing, and a chassis that's crying out for more power. And the awful exhaust. Like a chav in a clio with a pops and bangs map, way ott.
Not strictly true; it has the start/stop technology that reduced the CO2 output, even if the whole thing is just a cheat to get round the rules.
I,l let you know soon as i sold the rs250 this week and pick up the loen 280 on saturday how they compare back to back on a daily bases. As for price when i tried 3 dealers to get a new rs275 trophy in black with ohilns and turins the cheapeat quote was 30250 from the dealer i got my last two rensports from. The leon sc 280 with leather, black line, winter pack, mats and mudflap was 25200, no way was i spending 30 grand plus on a megane even after the fun ive had in the last one.
So basically if they'd have said 29.500 you'd have bought one but because it wasn't under 30k you said no. I'd prefer to spend 30 and have my first choice than 25 and get my second choice.
But if you've not got 29,500 then your not having your 1st choice, if money wasn't the problem then I'm sure he would of had the Renault, I wouldn't spend 30k on either or 25k on a seat Leon
But it wasnt 29500 was it, it was 30250, and even at 29500 thats a shit load of money for a meg. I chose the leon after looking long and hard and weighing up what i wanted and needed from my daily drive, even 25200 takes a lot of spending, so in the end the leon was my first choice, not second, third or even forth.
I'm sure it will be a good car, not much new out there for 25k with all the spec and power you get, good luck with it mate.
Friend at work has the Leon and it's a lovely car. Subtle looking by no means dull and goes like stink. He got it in red and he loves it. (My megs nicer though lol)
