250 Matching Xenons + sidelights?

Discussion in 'Exterior & Bodywork' started by Cowan91, Nov 11, 2014.

  1. So my 250 has the xenons which are really good, but the one hing that annoys me when seeing the lights on is those lovely bright, crisp white looking lights but the sidelights right next to them are this god awful dim orangey/yellowy colour.. Picky I know, but these tiny things annoy me haha..

Anyone else changed these and can suggest any new bulbs to match the xenons? Just out of interest, how awkward is it to change the bulbs? Doesn't look like a lot of room in there.

Easy to change, 2 bolts on top of the headlight, pull up the metal latch, slide the headlight towards you off the car. Once removed you can easily get to the back of it to change bulbs.

If you want a perfect match, remove the sidelight bulbs completely

  3. Thanks a lot, doesn't sound too bad. They really do look crap next to them. I suppose I could just remove them for the time being as the xenon's are more than bright enough:smile:

  4. some sort of LED replacements like the ones people use for interior and number plate lights?

  5. LED is the way to go. Replaced all my interior, rear number plate bulbs and front side lights. Looks so much better. If you want to do the lot you will need 14 LED's.

  6. Personally I find my number plate ones to be really quite bright, nice white light coming from them. Could've been changed by previous owner mind. The interior ones do look dull, but they aren't bothering me too much just now. I'll probably just do the sidelights for now.

Thanks for the link I'll take a look!

Also what is involved with changing all the interior lights? I'm guessing its quite a fiddly job? (Like the ones at the door etc)

  7. Do you have any photos? Quite like to see the finished product Haha.

  9. Sorry pics aren't the best. Will try some better ones once it has stopped raining.

  11. All easy to replace just unclipping apart from the glovebox which involves a little more work. Just need to take your time and don't force them. Front side lights are a doddle.

  12. Latest light mod done is the reversing lights.

  13. Hmm... In my mind, it only comes to 10. 2 side lights, 2 number plate lights, 5 interior and 1 in glove box.. What am I missing?

  14. Two lights for doors, three for front interior light, three for rear interior light, boot light and glove box gives you ten then two rear number plate and two front side lights total 14.

  15. Thanks, they look good. Is it a straight swap or? They don't look like they'd be a straight forward fit. Intrigued as to how they are held in place. They literally look like a printed circuit board lol?

  16. It's a straight swap. They are just a push fit.

  17. Okay thanks for that pal, will get a set of these ordered.

excuse the quality, taken with an iPad

  19. My 250 only has 1 rear interior light, other than that, you're right :-)

  20. My rear interior light is the same as the front with three bulbs,

  21. It does make me wonder if sidelights are just pointless now. I can't remember the last time I drove with only sidelights on.

  22. Yeh i've just completely turned mines off. I have the DRL mod which operates anyway so having the sidelights just seems pointless. It looks much cleaner with just the xenons by themselves

  23. Thread revival but i'm having trouble with the roof lights, the cluster of 3 front and back. Maybe it's just me being too gentle scared of breaking it but i can see there is a clip either side.. Is it just these 2 or are there more running along the light?

Is it easiest with a slotty driver or what did other people use haha? Do you just prize it out against the light or do you press against the clip to release the unit? I did try both to an extent lol..

  24. Did anyone find a nice solution for the sidelights? annoyed by exactly the same thing as thread starter

  25. Nevermind, didn't realise it was in the manual. For anyone else that might be wondering anyway you pull the light towards you from the windscreen side until you feel it move forward then just pull it down. Alot easier than i thought haha.

  26. @tutuur

These are the ones i and csmith both used. Wouldn't say it was a 100% match but it looks much, much better than the orangey tinged ones. (the side lights now actually look whiter than the xenons lol)

Used the same bulbs for all the interior lights. You will need 2 packs though as i was 5 bulbs short to do all interiors.

  27. Thanks mate!

  28. No problem pal, just noticed you have a 197. Might be different to ours as in how many bulbs you need, but i suppose if you've already bought them you can keep the 2nd bag for spares haha.

  29. Haven't bought anything yet but atleast i know how you fixed it. Will search for the correct bulbs later
