Had my service light come on this weekend (37k ish) How much should I be looking to pay for this service? (RS250)
I think spark plugs are due at 37.5k too. Not sure how much that will I add on to it. Would be interested to hear since I'm just a couple thousand off 37.5k.
Yes pre-gapped. Think they're a bit higher on the torque to tighten than most plugs if I remember correctly. Just unplug the ignition coils unbolt then remove the spark plugs and replace.
Update:- The service is done. Originally quoted £550 . When I told them I didn't need the brake fluid changing, as I had recently done it, the price dropped to £470. BUT, when I picked it up I noticed the plugs had not been changed!! I questioned this, and they said their computer had not picked this up on the quotation, but agreed that it should have (doh). But after I expressed my displeasure they agreed to fit them F.O.C. Still a lot of money to get a stamp in the book.
Yer thats loads mate for a service... What dealer is that? I see you are only in ipswich not far from me
That was Bristo's in Ipswich mate. The only local options were that, or Lookers in Colchester, and Lookers have already annoyed me once
Christ, this isn't good news. Got my RS250 booked in at Bristos next week for a service :-/ Edit: don't think I will be taking it there.... Just had this email reply. The price has shot up considerably since first quote and I've already had the coolant and brake fluid changed.
real shame, really tough to find a decent dealer these days. I used to be really looked after by one until they shut down. suppose these guys are hiking prices to stay afloat!
I really don't understand why people still use Main dealers for servicing?! Smaller known independants and specialists are where its at. Fraction of the cost and arguably a better service mine hasn't seen a main dealer since i have owned it and never will and i have probably spent no more than half of what Renault quote. Using the whole warranty excuse is a lot of rubbish as well, As long as they use oem quality or better parts and are VAT(?) registered IIRC thats all you need to keep your warranty intact I know for one if i had the choice of 2 cars both with service history but one being main dealer and the other a known indy/specialist i would always take the later.
Agree with you, however there are no RS specialists near here and I'm not travelling to near Harlow just to get a service.
Its just a service, It doesn't necessarily have to be an RS specialist.... Mine has been serviced by a Caterham specialist
Exactly. A service on my R26 inc plugs and cabin filter (Induction kit fitted so didn't need an air filter) cost me about £130 with Mark Black earlier this year. Once you find a good independent you'll cry at the money you wasted taking it to Renault.
Mark does all my work! He did belts, hids and tyres back in March and 2 weeks ago he did a full service, brake fluid, rear discs/pads and fitted a dv for me.
Yes Jamie, yer probably right. Now it's out of warranty I'll think about where I take it next time. Would gladly service it myself, but I do think that "main dealer" stamp does make a difference when you go to sell it
Yes mate that's pretty much the quote I had, and then they forgot the spark plugs. Let me know how you get on Stu
Are you worried about the plugs? Unless they're actually causing you issues, I simply wouldn't bother changing them. I only paid around £200 for my 4th service (at 27k) which included all the usual items. I did change the brake fluid myself just before though, so didn't pay for that.
As long as you keep the receipts of the parts if you were to service it yourself it wouldn't bother me at all IMO
I had my car serviced at smiths Renault today. £279 for the service, MOT, coolant, new brake fluid, key card battery and aligning my front wheels. Great customer service from the service department also.
