RR printout thread.

  1. This was a little idea I had while I was region rep on 197/200net.

A thread for everyone to post their rolling road printouts whether it's from a map or just a dyno day so we can all compare what works and what doesn't.

I'd be grateful if an admin could stick this for me.

  2. I'd bd interested to see some especially from dyno days.

  3. Nmp

    Nmp

    I'd be interested too.

  4. See above.

    My car :

Freds dyno 223 bhp / 235 ib ft
    Keiths dyno 236bhp / 212ib ft

You take your car to Johns dyno

    221 bhp / 222 ib ft

What have you proved by requesting dyno plots ? That all 3 produced varied results ? That all 3 are wrong ? Whos is right ? What trends have you set ?

I never said I wasn't interested in the thread , I said I dont think it has any worth . There are too many variables.

James, counter something I have said productively. Enlighten me with your knowledge, tell me how dyno comparison can be useful. I can tell you for a fact that all the graphs will tell you is that some cars produce more power than others. At different points. In different weathers , on different tyres , at different locations , by different manufactures.

To make the test valid and with merit you need :

Standard car. Baseline run on one roller on a particular day
Standard car + mod 1 : re run after cooling etc ( as close to control as possible )
Standard car + mod 1 + mod 2 : re run after cooling etc ( as close to control as possible )
    repeat

That will tell you what is gaining power. I must stress that some cars respond better to some mods than others. Eg Brigsy decat his good ladies Meg and got 15hp out of it. I did mine and gained 8hp.

All the dyno's will provide differening results, with varying levels of accuracy. Some will be +/- 10%, some maybe 5%.
The next major variable would be the cars like you described. Many have different mods and even without differing mods, cars will put out different power figures.
The air pressure, fuel quality, and air temperature would also be a variable you would have to take into consideration.

However, if get a big enough sample size you would be able to pull together a good baseline. You would then be able to compare dyno’s, cars, mods etc more effectively.

Ultimately, some data is better to make decisions than no data whatsoever. You just have to take the variables and accuracies into consideration before you start taking the data as fact.

And as you’ve made clear, dyno’s are not all the same. BUT if people understand this and would still like to review the data knowing this, that’s fine.

  6. I've found a lot of dynos (operators) tell you what you want to hear.

Still interested to see people's print outs though but more interested in dyno day ones for better comparison.

  7. Is this where yours has been run ?

I would of thought a good few of the rolling road dynos would of been done at rs tuning, so comparison should be easier.

  9. Still got the engine variables though

  10. Haven't put the Megane on a roller yet.
Tried to get a dyno day going but no one was interested.

  11. Just one more thing to add : We kinda know what works and what doesn't ...

  12. Was curious why you mentioned DynoDaze as a comparison , thats all.

Haven't had mine on dyno yet, hopefully next year:smiley:

  14. Need to get it done as I want to see the afr's.

  15. Why is it pointless? It will show which rollers read what and what cars make on those rollers and so on, and it would be good to see the curve others make. I don't understand why everyone needs to be so serious, it's only a graph and a figure. We all know there's stronger and weaker engines and different rollers. No 2 runs are ever the same, even on the same car. It was purely just to compare graphs and mods. Christ, chill out.

  16. Have you modded something ? Or just curious in general?

  17. ive had my car on 2 different rollers, one said 277 hp and the other said 235 (same mods same day) did it just to prove to mates that it makes NO difference what they say on rollers its about whats in your pants that counts

  18. So anyway, regardless of andybond's opinion I'd still like to see everyone else's graph even if it was on the rollers in Disneyland or tuned by donald duck I don't really care.

Just thought it would be cool to have a permanent thread to post them on.

    Post away!

Thread cleaned up at the request of members.

Granted theres so many variables to seeing results and we all know that results will differ from RR to RR and on day to day, etc. But this forum is a tool for learning about the car and knowledge so we welcome different opinions and ideas but keep it constructive and dont spam.

People are welcome to post their experiences and graphs, maybe putting them up with as much info as possible will be best, but stay on topic and no sniping, this isn't the place to get bitchy nor nasty so turn it in anyone thinking of going down that route, as I won't stand for it...

  20. So sit down.

    Couldnt resist.

You're about as funny as a wet window regulator.

Just let us know when we're good to get back on topic.

  22. Personal experience
    Mods in order
    1 standard remap : +30bhp +30ibft
2 Cooler added : zero gain . less loss when warm
    3 decat added : + 7 bhp +30ibft
    4 Injectors / exhaust ( RS tuning ) / filter : +13bhp 0ibft
    5 turbo changed ( 250 turbo ) +33.5bhp +20ibft

  23. Only mod is an Airtec intercooler and a remap of course.

  24. Mr Twig : Just an intercooler and map and 304hp ? Standard car dyno'd at 266.5 ? Just checking ..

  25. Yes

  26. Penny just dropped. 250/265 variant right ?

  27. Paul at RSTuning mentioned to me that the 250 airbox filter is rather restrictive and hes seen good gains with intake mods alone.
Might be worth testing filter and airbox mods back to back?

  28. What was your whp figures on these?

  29. Did he say if it was the actual box or the piping to it that was restrictive?

  30. He mentioned more the filter being restrictive, but I don't think many folk have modified a 250 air box to see the difference?

  31. What's the modification on the old one? I don't think the design changed that much, the physical filter dimensions are very close (mm different).

  32. I heard the 250 airbox was miles better than the standard one. The r26 one is gash. Lots of companies tried to develop kits but only produced 1-2bhp more ?

  33. The standard pipework to the airbox is tiny. Heres the original one next to the 3"ducting pipe I replaced it with.

  34. I did measure the narrowest part too but must of deleted it.

  35. I cant see you image as its blocked at work , but I assume this is for the 225 not the 250/265 ?

  36. Yes 225.

  37. The 225 design is hugely restrictive

The 250 design appears to be fine.

  38. I'm not sure as to the dimensions of both airboxes, but looking at past renault ranges(225,1*2) the airboxes always seem to get swapped or modified,so maybe the 250 could benefit from something similar?

Does anyone know if there's much space under the battery tray to run a larger air feed and modify the airbox for better air flow?

Also remember madmax mentioning something about a cone filter induction kit lowering his mpg and only gaining him 1-2bhp...

  39. I dont think the 250 has the resriction.

The most cost effective way of losing the 225/r26 box is to put a open cone filter on it. Large as possible.

  40. Im not disputing the standard airbox flows well, but this thread is about testing and making things even better, so possibly the 250 might gain from modifying the airbox?

Every other modern day hot hatch on the market (vag engined, ford, etc) seems to have a set mod list: intake, exhaust, intercooler, injectors and remap, they all seem to gain 80-120bhp. The megane seems to gain around 60-70bhp on standard figures, so maybe intake mods will help pull the megane inline with its rivals? Unless the turbo has nothing left to give at 320bhp?
