Was having a chat with some folks at work today and we were wondering what the cheapest car to purchase, maintain and tune to 500bhp or there abouts. Any idea chaps?
I think displacement will be your friend here, something like a vauxhall Monaro as to get 500 brake is reliable has been done time and time again on those LS engines so loads of bolt on kits Or you could go for something from the audi stable in the form of an rs6 or something
Do you need to tune it to 500bhp ? Tuning wise it's need to be a 5pot Audi either the TTRS or RS3...theyre expensive to buy though. If you don't need to tune it an E60 M5, they're hovering around the £20k mark now and with the 'cash' left over you can use that to run it.
Agree with Mark, work on afew amg's well over 500bhp from pretty simple modifications. A c63 can be mapped to well over 500bhp and the earlier 55k's just need smaller pulley and a map to break into the 500 range, torque on the 55k's is staggering.
Could buy an old shell , drop in a YB lump and fabricate to fit ? That would be cheap. So many variables really
I'm not after anything we were just saying if we werre so inclined to on a limited budget. All started with a customer talking about his 400bhp lancer.
Something Jap. My Meganes replacement is going to be a R32 GTR which 4-450bhp next year, Should have the excitement factor i need after having the Meg for so long
Sure will, Unlike the Megane it will be a proper weekend/track toy as i am picking up a Diesel BMW Estate or similar for Daily driving and maybe towing
Smaller pulley,remap and best to get uprated exchanger you will see 550 easily, plus you can have the air suspension set lower, then have it raised by the standard buttons for bumps. Friend has an e55 estate with the above mods and headers it makes just over 600bhp and 700llbft. The later 5.5 bi turbo is nuts pricey at the moment but over 700bhp with just a remap

Theres a boy over on CS whos building one from scratch with his father, and my god what a build they are doing, so much appreciation for the time and commitment those guys have put in
That's me mate im on here as well as cliosport haha, yeah me and my dad are doing the build on his supra. Will be hopefully around 1000 Bhp when finished, not far off completing the build now. I could put the build thread up on here as well if people are interested?
It won't be though. I was at Vmaxx the other week and in a straight line it's not even natural what the Veyron can still do. The GTRs are the most impressive things out there. I was in a 600bhp one and nothing bar the la Ferrari touched it all day (it didn't run against the Bug). But off the line I can't think of a better car in the world now than the 911 TurboS. Back on topic it'd be a Cerbera for me. Cheapish now, have the Tdf loom, good coilys and a few other trick bits and it would be a right weapon.
Just watched the Alpha omega tuned gtr with 2000bhp blitz the quarter mile on you tube. Incredible how those things get off the line. I think it would be jap toy for me, supra or skyline.

That's insane. I saw a 540bhp RX7 for sale for £6750, I really wanted to buy it but practicality and fuel price necessitates a more sensible hatchback.

What about a poorly clio ( knackered engine ) , forge a f4R lump , big tubo, cams , O2m box , different fuel system and 500 is done.

You could buy a 350Z...which are really a good of good value atm. Then forge the engine and put a twinturbo on it...and then --> do it crosswise with rice :cool: A Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 is another good option too for a TT/ST rebuild
In fact it's an fantastic engine with lots of potential...but what does that bring if the body and the rest is for an ass? And in fact the stock Supra looks rubbish and shitty..u always have to get a expensive body-kit (Veilside is an eyecatcher) to make the look acceptable
