URGENT HELP REQUIRED leaking fluid road side...

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by richmeg, Oct 17, 2014.

  1. Guys just driving round a car park for while looking for a space and once is parked up I noticed a red fluid leaking from underneath the engine, appears to be coming from a hose/bulb to the left of the battery...

Got pics but not sure how to upload from my phone.

Just need to know if I'm safe to drive home and can investigate further tomo.

    Nightmare Renault!

  2. Power steering fluid , if it's leaking your steering will get heavy but I'm sure it will get you home as long as its not too far

  3. Steve cheers mate...its about 15 min drive...I suspected power steering fluid as the steering has been a problem since I bought the car...

  4. Just a little concerned it could he engine coolant or transmission fluid that's all...

  5. Hopefully you have reached home.

  7. Wow the abbreviations are going strong tonight! (wtaagst)

The Megane steering is hydraulic - and it's lovely

  8. R26

    R26

    Yep.

  9. I too thought they were electric power steering, definitely not a P/S reservoir under my bonnet.

  10. Yes, electric power steering. Probably a coolant leek.

    Is the fluid thick?
Sounds like coolant to me aswell but that shouldn't be red

  12. What Megane is it? I know mine (250) is fully electric. Maybe the last gen had hydraulic steering?

  14. Perhaps someone has replaced the type D green coolant with Halfords or similar red coloured coolant?

  15. Maybe he has found body under his car

  16. ha . . . alright guys made it home safe (I think) . . .

Just wondering what to do now, car is on the drive.

Ok so it can't be power steering fluid . . . transmission fluid?

    The temp needle has not moved I don't think . . .

    Here are some pics:

Its that rubber bulb type hose/capping that is leaking.

    Let me know your thoughts.

    Thanks,

    Rich

  17. looks like the outlet of the thermostat housing, so must be coolant then..

  18. As said above what colour is the coolant in the bottle

  19. Colour is red so must be coolant . . .

What is that rubber bulb type hose cap? Where would I find a replacement?

    What purpose does it serve?

    Thanks for help.

  20. ^^^ Can anyone help with the above?

Trying to identify the rubber bulb / hose / capping thing in the picture which is where the leak is coming from.

Currently car is out of use and unable to drive it to a garage S-:

  21. Just replace the bung. My r26 has a sealed thermostat housing so that don't exist

  22. Does the bung serve no purpose? I thought it might house a sensor or something but thats silly cos there is no wire, or create some sort of vacuum . . .

What did you replace it with?

  23. I didn't replace it as the r26 one comes sealed as standard so there is no bung. It's welded closed.

  24. I'd like to know as well, what its purpose is?

  25. It could be a bleed point. It could be a point where a return goes. Its just part of having a car that engine is used in multiple different cars

  26. Makes sense thanks . . .

Any ideas where I could get a replacement or what to put in its place.

Maybe a bit of hose with a bolt in the end for now? Just not sure what kind of pressure is in that system . . .

  27. Just ordered a new one from Ads place.

    Thanks for the help.
