250 - Loss of power at 5k revs

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by James and his 250, Oct 7, 2014.

  1. Yesterday I went for a race start, put the car in sport mode, got a good start and then at probably 5k revs I heard a pretty evil sound coming from the rear of the exhaust for around 2 seconds, I took my foot off the accelerator and put the car into third and all went back to normal. After a bit of caution I later redlined the car again from first and didn't have a problem. Is this a common problem and what could be the cause?

I've had the car a month now and this is the first time its occurred. Ive just had the centre silencer removed I'm hoping this was not caused by that

    Many thanks

  2. You've not hit the cold limiter have you, if it's not properly warmed up it could be that

  3. Hit the limiter? First time I did that I shat myself with the awful quacking type of noise

  4. Yer will be the cold limiter, car needs a good 15mins to warm up properly.

why are you doing race starts anyway? Megane is no straight line hero, the stress on the clutch and gearbox racking the limiter in first is doing the car no good!

  5. Oh no my poor car :worried:
I normally use the rsmonitor to check when it's warm. Hopefully that won't happen again. Yea Matty I know :/ Was going for a decent 0-60 time..6.23 ill be happy now.

  6. Cal

    Cal

How long / many miles had you done before you tried this?

  7. How were the conditions??? I've had it a couple of times where I've lost traction during a first gear pull and the traction control comes down like a sledge hammer all of a sudden??? Just a thought

  8. Could be this, I dont think I had cold oil to be honest, but I hadn't gone too far so maybe it still was. It was pretty dry and it sounded like it was coming from the exhaust rather than the tyres
