Worst week of my life!

  1. So Monday I have to use my car for work for the first time in ages and manage to kerb one of my new wheels pretty badly.
And then went over the mrs parents last night and the neighbour knocks on the door to say he has hit my car!

Not happy. At least nobody was hurt but still got to get quotes and shit now.
The door is bent in quite bad so I dare open the window. Do you guys think new door or just knock it out?

  2. I think with something like that, will require a new door but best asking for a bodyshops opinion.

    Going through insurance or not?

  3. He said go through insurance but that takes ages so I said I'd get some quotes first. What do you think I should do?

  4. Go through insurance, no cutting costs then. Would you really want it pulled out? I wouldn't be happy with anything less than a new door.

  5. I suspect on that size of dent you will have to replace the door otherwise the panel will always wobble about!

  6. Get the best job done as you can and send him the bill, job done , end of

  7. I think when they realise the cost of the job then it'll be an insurance job. Don't force him into you using his mate of a mate or any of that rubbish, its your car and he's at fault.

  8. Inc a hire car , tell him how much get the cash and get it done

  9. Not too bad could of been worse, yes it's bad he hit you but at least he didn't just leave it and told you

ive seen cars down our street reverse into another then just drive off like nothing's happened

  10. It is too much to pull it. I would rather go thru insurance.

  11. Cheers guys. Gonna call insurance tomorrow. At the end of the day that's why I pay £500 a year.

  12. Nothing to do with your insurance mate, I wouldn't call them I'm sure even if you claim off his insurance company you'll still go down as having a claim, he just needs to call his and they will pay to get yours fixed,

  13. at least he told you.. most dickheads wouldn't even bother. Go through insurance, you have a third party already admitting liability so you shouldn't lose your NCB, and your most likely able to claim back your excess through his insurance

  14. Just bare in mind that it will be recorded as a damaged car if you go through the insurance. It WILL work against you when selling the car on and you WILL end up paying a higher insurance premium next year even if its a no fault claim. Believe me im going through a very similar case at the moment.

On damage so minor i would seriously think about buying a new or second hand door and getting it sprayed and fitted at a body shop.

  15. Like I say it's nothing to do with your own insurance company at all, why do they need to be told if he's admitting it .

  16. As guys said earlier, NOT YOUR insurance.

  17. It is only an issue for selling the car if the car is written off.

  18. Weather you make a claim on his or your insurance, you have made a claim.

On your next insurance quote you will be asked if you have made a claim regardless of fault.

No fault claims still count against you, as you are seen as a higher risk. Horrible but true.

Plus you will be left with a 225 which is classed as a cat d. When selling the car on it will devalue the car no doubt. Plus will be dearer to insure in the future, due to the accident its a higher risk car.

Im going through a very similar case, but with my astra. MY renewal has come through and has tripled. Getting quotes off many companies the cheapest i can find is double what i paid last year. On top of that im left with a car that has been seriously devalued due to it now being classed as a cat d. The crash was'nt my fault so im not happy at all.

  19. It will be classed as a cat d with that amount of damage.

  20. It's borderline. I had a £3k repair done recently in my Meg and it wasn't written off.

  21. I've had a claim previous to this and didn't affect my insurance. Although it was on my old fiesta. It won't be a class d will it?

  22. A cat d isnt a write off its a vehicle the insurance has decided to repair.

  23. Just googled cat d and the rac says it means the car is uneconomical to repair. I hope this doesn't happen. Can't get a car same spec for anywhere near the value of mine.

  24. Yes is is a write off. Any cat in s a write off.

  25. They should repair that.

  26. So I reported it to my insurance and the repair has been approved. Now who wants to guess how much the total repair is?

  27. £6.4k???

  28. £7k

  29. £2k. Going in on Tuesday the 8th. I'm surprised they didn't say it was a cat d.

  30. It'll affect your next renewal though! A neighbour hit my last car and did £900's worth of damage and when I went to renew my price exactly doubled as I was in the high risk category! Crazy but there's no way around it when you go through the insurance!

  31. Just had my car picked up and this dropped off. Quite excited to drive it.

  32. Thats a pretty tidy hore car, better than an i10 or something similar!

Oh and as for those saying it'll be recorded as a write off, lol just lol!

  33. Apparently being subject to a theft/accident even though not your fault makes you 300% more likely to be involved in another claim within 24 months. That what my insurance told me. Bullshit statistics if you ask me.

  34. My car was hit by a car that was hit by a stolen car. Just before my renewal. They charged me an additional £80 to renew. When the stolen cars insurer paid out, I got my excess back and the £80 refunded.

  35. Yeah it's all a load of crap to make money! I asked why I was a higher risk and she said it's because my driving had caused an accident to occur, even if I was the non fault driver, and therefor it would probably happen again. Didn't matter that I wasn't in the car or even parked on the road at the time the accident happened!

  36. Who are you insured with?

  37. I was with aviva but they wouldn't insure me with my Meg because of the accident and I ended up paying £1490 this year with admiral!

  38. That's mental. My story with Brentacre and highway couldn't have been more different. I hate insurance!

  39. Yeah I'll be phoning round to get cheaper insurance this time, I can't afford that again!

  40. One claim shouldn't add that much to be honest. How old are you?
