Fitting Springs

  1. As the title says...

Got myself some cooksport springs and wondering how hard are they to do on the R26 worth giving them a go or just take it to a garage?

Anyone willing to fits these for beer tokens round the portsmouth area..

  2. Rears are piss easy, fronts are a nightmare.

  3. Argh night just drop it off at a garage then.

  4. Depends how you wanna do them, I think most remove the front subframe to get the lower arms off and the hub low enough to withdraw the strut from the arch.

I myself, being abit of a cowboy, just took an air grinder to the original springs and cut them in half allowing me to compress the strut enough to remove without having to strip the hub assembly. The new springs are then low enough to 'just' squeeze the strut back in fully built up. Jobs a gooden

I take no responsibility in anyone following my bodge and injuring themself or losing an eye :tongueout:

  5. Just have a bash mate. I'm not a mechanic and managed it in the day. Fronts are time consuming but do'able. Just take your time and don't pull the drive shaft out and leak gear box oil all over the nice block paving like me!

  6. When I did mine I put spring clamps on the front just to get the struts out. I pulled the driveshaft out by accident aswel, but luckily it wasn't nice paving it spilled on

Just fitting my springs and the nut in the picture will not loosen does anyone know how to get that nut out?

  8. Has anyone had a quote for fitting?

  9. It's easier to take the strut and hub out completely! Loosen tops mounts, anti rotation link, track rod and wishbone and pull it all out. Oh and the drive shaft retaining nut as well!

  10. Got the nut out. Just having difficulty getting the strut back in the hub

  11. You manage to angle the strut out without removing the hub?

  12. Yeah we angled it but the top of the strut catches on the wing

  13. So what's disconnected hub wise just the bolt keeping the strut in and the droplink?

  14. Correct just those two

  15. How far is the hub travelling down, obviously not enough to angle the strut in?

  16. It's in now thankfully

Still the other side to do fml

  17. Haha I was like that after I did one side, wondered to myself would I notice it only on one side that much haha

  18. Lol it's been a pain, the rears must of took about 30mins max

Thankfully the girlfriends dad is doing it and I'm assisting

  19. Does anyone want to change mine ? :-)

  20. I bet a garage would charge a few 100?

  21. All you need is a small set of spring compressors, compress the spring slightly and the strut comes out no problem. As for the strut bolt, good squirt of WD and work it, it will come out. My work charges 2 hours labour for this job.

  22. Thats exactly how I did mine and was a piece of cake, im no mechanic but know my way around a tool box, after some research I gave it a bash, successfully lol

  23. I wouldnt want to have done it on a jack like I proper pulled on at it haha.

  24. I've beeen quoted £200 to get mine fitted! Apparently its a 4.5 hour job by the book

  25. I thought it would have been something like that! Scandalis

  26. That's robbery! How can it possibly take 2 hour's to do one strut.

  27. Yeah I was a bit shocked at the price, cost more to fit than buy

  28. That's what we had done but the bolt was
Having none of it, left it for a bit then came back to it and it popped out straight away.

The left drivers side took us about 3hours and the passengers took a hour in the end.

Been for a drive and it handles amazing, not bouncy or hard like I expected it to be slightly harder but I can hardly notice it.

All clean and ready for goodwood tomorrow

  29. Looks stunning in that picture mate

  30. Thanks a lot mate

  31. Once springs are fitted , do you then need a full steering geometry check?

  32. It's best to. Some just get a tracking check, but I find hunter wheel alignment works better.
