Window wiper auto mode

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by hooverphonique, Oct 2, 2014.

  1. I've noticed that with the wiper switch on auto, the wipers don't start when turning on the car while in the rain.. if I pull the wiper switch once, they start.. They seem to start on their own, if the rain starts while driving... Is this correct behavior and just me being impatient?

on a side note, the rear wiper seems to be pretty rubbish, while the blade looks alright to me..

    cheers...

  2. It happens only when sensor is extremely dirty or covered in ice.
Rear wiper is bit hopeless. I have changed blade and still leaves some lines. It may be due rear screen shape.

  3. well, there's no ice this time of year ;-)
is the sensor in the wind screen itself?

  4. Yes. Just next to the mirror. Middle top of the front windscreen. You can't really miss it.

  5. if it's the same as my 225, the 'auto' wipers need to be turned on each time it rains. so they are more like semi-auto.

If you leave them on the first position when you turn the car off, they won't automatically start the next time you drive in the rain. wiper stalk needs to be put into the off position then back to intermittent.

They are actually automatic intermittent wipers - ie the time between wipers in intermittent mode is automatic, not the actual activation of the wipers themselves.

    hope this helps.

edit: this is all in the manual - only learnt about it because I thought mine weren't working!

  6. I got mine on "auto" all the time and they activate on it self during rain. I don't need to touch the stalk.
I had the same in my Laguna mk3 and Scenic mk2, too.

  7. hmm.. well, mine seem to behave somewhere in the middle of those two descriptions... I'll have to pay more attention next time I drive in the rain, to see what's what..

    cheers, guys

  8. Same with my R26, I can just leave it on auto all the time.

  9. So today it was pouring, so took care to notice what was going on.. seems my wipers also go on on their own, when starting in the rain.. The thing is, they don't go on when starting the engine, but when starting to drive..

  10. Yeh when pulling upto traffic lights they will stop

  11. Does it help if you switch the auto function off then on again. Think it's the end button on the left stalk

  12. Its all auto, leave it down one notch permanently. If you want them to wipe more regularly twist the end for more to suit
