225 Getting to 300 bhp options?

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Azagedon, Sep 22, 2014.

  1. I've got a 225 engine in my clio 197, I think reaching 300/300 would be the perfect amount of power. I'm almost there just need a tiny bit more!
Currently at 270 bhp, 301lbft with induction and 3" decat and exhaust. Std injectors, std pipes + intercooler.

I'm thinking a 250 turbo (?) 630cc injectors, boost pipes, bigger FMIC and some ARP bolts?

Whats your opinions? I understand it's near the 'limit' but It's well looked after and all that.

  2. I think you need stronger rods to get upto 300bhp...

  3. Would I get away with just the rod bolts?

  4. 225 engine, its torque that kills them not BHP i think you'll struggle. On my old engine i had hybrid, 630's, IC, Decat and made 284/301 didn't want to go any more due to the rods

  5. I'm running 293/310 and all that differs from my engine to yours is a Hybrid Turbo & 630's

I'm not sure how big an intercooler you can fit behind the Clio bumper, a 250 or a 225 Hybrid will get you where you want to be.

Not sure how different a 250 Hybrid will be to a 225 Hybrid on a 225 engine, so many variables

  6. There is a intercooler and pipe kit that can support 300+ so no worries on that .

Thing is I've seen a 225/250 hybrid I like (19t can do 370bhp...) around £1200 same price as other hybrids... BUT for half the price you can buy a new std 250 turbo which can do 300? Agreed loads of variables, at least its a strong base in the first place though.

  7. a meg 250 turbo should do 300bhp.
    Filter / decat / 630s / 250 turbo / intercooler seems the relevant route

  8. I thought so mate, what's your thoughts on the ARP bolts / rods?

  9. Wouldnt bother tbh. Do it all , or go home

  10. Good shout. 1500 for the bits you mentioned, not bad I think! Temping.

  11. I'm going to see how close I can get without new turbo.

    Manley conrods
    ARP bolts.
    Decat
    Itg
    630cc
    Fmic
    K-tec 2.75 exhaust
    Forge recirc
    Forge actuator.

    Then after maybe hybrid.

  12. Bin the bolts and get a turbo.

285bhp. 290 at an absolute balls out slightly lean map.

  13. Already fitted mate

I'll see how this pans out and decide after a good week at work.

  14. My totally standard block saw 304bhp & 335ftlb for over 2 years with trackdays n all. I had hybrid & 630cc injectors on top of what you have.

  15. Looking forward to see the results, you had it mapped? You can be the guinea pig to sway me buying one

+Cheers for the info Lee, looks like you had a strong std engine.

  16. Linkification please.

  17. Keefylad on here can get them gents.

    Or could.

  18. It's meant to be 270bhp -300lb, with printout.

Its a quick car to say the least but until I have it on the rollers at rst, I will not properly know.

  19. Thats the same power I'm running now mate with the std blower.

  20. Il keep you updated or let you know once it's gone Bang.

  21. ah , with you.

  22. There's a guy in here or the other site can't remember who can get turbos built to your spec for 600. I wasgoibg to buy a hybrid 250 off him before I decided I quite liked my engine without holes in.

  23. I assume thats an exchange item, ones I was talking about were brand new units .
Silly reason not to get one though as you could have a conservative map i.e 270-280, and hybrids use less boost so lower temps too.

  24. Iirc they were new units fella. I'll dig the link/thread out when I'm not at work (on my phone).

  25. Forge Actuator or Recirc not required for these sort of power figures?

  26. A fairly standard megane 250 will make 300 bhp fella

  27. Not that I am aware ..

You know mine has been running 302hp / 320ft.lb for 3yrs and 3 months.

It's covered around 40K miles, 3k of that was a HARD drive to France, Geneva, the Alps and a couple of track days.. still no problems!

In fact, when I just checked the dates I found a photo of mine and your old 225 on top of a mountain in France

AET hybrid turbo, 630cc injectors, turbo back Milltek exhaust and a few Forge Motorsport parts.
Plan is to do it over Winter when the garage is sorted... I've got roof sheets and insulation now, need to give my roofer mate a shout to give me a hand

  32. Your engine build is nearly as old as mine Kieran.
