Hi Guys, Following from my thread previous, having had a Stage1 map my Torque figures I was impressed with but my BHP was just under 250 which I was a little disappointed at. Just wonder, what, if anything I could do to get up to a better figure....Just wondered if the standard actuator could potentially lose me BHP??? Would it be worth me getting a FMIC? Regards, Mark
Hey Mark, where did you get the map from? Did your mapper say you were losing boost at the top end or anything? A few people have had problems with the standard recirc valve leaking boost at stage 1 power how many miles how old is your car? AS the standard recirc is diapghram based so can leak a bit as it gets older. A FMIC is always handy but don't count on it giving you more power it just won't heat soak as quickly as the OEM ones although a few companies do cliam increases of up to 10 bhp. Injectors if there a bit dirty/ clogged can also effect it don't suppose you know what the % duty of them were? Or is your car "coughing" from the exhaust on idle?
Hi Jones, When I had it rolling road they said it looked like it may of been losing a bit of boost top end. The map is a FASTCHIP map by Henk, had the RStuner from my Clio 182 so thought I might aswell utilise is for the Megane, but thought people had better gains from the same map when I did my research beforehand. My car is on 50,000 miles now, well looked after etc but I've heard it could be the recirc valve....do they tend to lose much boost?? FMIC I might leave for the time being, maybe the valve upgrade might be more worthwhile? I have no idea about the injectors I'm afraid, do they cost much to get cleaned?? Thanks again
I'd definitely do away with the standard recirc valve. I found mine was leaking quiet a bit. Noticeable difference in torque. But personally I have found that henks map doesn't have a massive amount of top end. I don't think his map has as much as Paul's map up the higher end of the rev range from what I've seen on the other forum.
henks and pauls maps are exactly the same, unless you get him to tweak it when on the rolling road but henk can also do this if you send him the recorded data from your box fastchip box. id say replace your standard recirc and get it on the rollers again. or if you want a cheaper option, get a blanking plate and get it on the rollers and see what your readings are.
This is what I was led to believe. But I might source a blanking plate and see if theres any difference before spending loads on a forge recirc valve. Thanks for the replies guys. Keep them coming if theres any other ideas.
Could also be the actuator if the blanking plate doesn't stop the boost leak at the top end - although i havent heard of too many problems with them tbh could always try the spring trick on the actuator a lot of the VW boys seem to do the spring mod although i havent looked yet at the meg to see if its possible / enough space etc http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5700226-Wastegate-Actuator-Spring-Mod
haha like joe says its a old argument by many megane users. it does put slightly more stress on the bearings but it wont blow the turbo as its still a low pressure. im running it still and its been fine for 5 months, just like many other people with meganes and various other cars. for your experiment it will be fine.
