Afternoon, sorry if I've put it on the wrong section. I didn't know if this will fall under interior or exterior. Anyway.... I have a 55 plate 225 Trophy, I have been speaking to its previous owner and he was saying he had a problem with water in the passenger footwell over last winter. Since speaking to him I have spoke to another friend who also has a 225 and he said he's just had a similar problem but in the drivers footwell and was apparently down to blocked drainage pipes each corner of the panel under the window wipers. Anyone know an easy way to get to them and unblock them, and will this be the likely cause of the water in the footwell last winter? Just I want to rectify the problem before the bad weather sets in. Cheers, Dan
Yup common problem. Windscreen wipers off, remove scuttle, clear drains, done. 15min job. check the drainage holes are clear underneath each door whilst you are there
Sounds good to me Matty, where am I looking for the drain holes under the door, sorry if its obvious!!! Just I'm brand new to meganes so clueless I'm afraid!
Lol yer, from memory you have to pull back the rubber door seal and you will see the drainage holes, give them a good clear out
Just had the carpets and foam fully out of my 225 due to this problem! Cleared my scuttle drains then realised I should also check the aircon drip tray drain. This is directly under the centre dash at the bottom of the cabin air intake. Once the scuttles block all the water and crud flow into this intake down to the drip tray drain and block it then the water comes into foot wells. The aircon drain is easy to sort as well. All the drains have a flap over the ends, which will block any large matter passing through therefore blocking the drain. I cut these flaps off to stop that happening. Been 3 weeks and no issues since. If the carpets/foam get wet the only real way to solve it is get it out to dry it fully as the carpets are rubber backed. Also noticed a rubber bung on each side under the floor storage which is only accessible when carpets are out. These go straight to the outside and I found dirt around them as though water had been going in there to from splashes, just cleaned them up and silicone sealed them in!
Harri, does much need to removed to gain access to this drip tray? I've been away from the car for a few days otherwise I would have looked before asking another daft question. Just thought a bit extra advice before I go pulling bits off I don't have to will be an advantage. Cheers again, Dan
Ive had the wipers and panel off to clean the two drains under there, the passenger side one is ok and cleaned through ok. The drivers side one is being a nightmare. It had a small puddle sitting over it before I started and I've had pip cleaner down it about 8 inches and still doesn't drain away. The drain pipe seems to direct across to the passenger side. I've also tried to pull it out towards me to clean it properly off the car but only pulls out about 2-3 inches and feels attached to something. Maybe gonna try the hose pipe in it later today to see if that will clear it just the pipe cleaner seems as if it hits something at the bottom or as far as it will go anyway?! Any other ideas of wisdom as I want it sorting before the bad weather lands. Dan
I believe the pipes are attached top and bottom so you won't be able to generate much movement and there are 1 or 2 bends in them so you'll need something strong but flexible like an old wire coat hanger. There is a flap at the bottom of the pipe that stops most of the s**t draining out, I cut these off but it might be worth doing this before trying to clear them as you'll just be condensing it at the bottom of the pipe. Quick Q - I was trying to clear my scuttle drains this weekend, done then passenger side as much as I could, went to do the drivers side and the pipe came off and went down under the scuttle, I didn't have time to sort this out & re-connect, is this going to cause any problems with water ingress into the cabin or will it simply pass into the engine bay?
