Forgive me for not being too clear but I am away in France and the details are back in England. My wifes RS 250 just failed the MOT. It was something like 'excessive play in lower suspension arm' Apparently its going to cost in the region of £400 + vat for the part an labour. Is this something that is a common problem. Its a 2010 with 30,000 miles.
I've a 2011 250 that's just passed mot yesterday (29800 on clock) at main dealer and all ok. Was your mot OEM or independent ?
My 2010 250 failed it's MOT a couple of months back and I was given the reason of "excessive play in lower suspension arm on both sides". Car was on 33,500 miles. I ended up having the hub bearings on both sides replaced. Certainly wasn't the garage chancing it with me since they fought tooth and nail to make sure I got it covered under their companies own extended warranty.
I took the car for the MOT actually. Its an independent garage who have dealt with for over 10 years. The owner is a enthusiast who runs a Caterham and he has done lots of work on my VX220 track car for me. A genuine and good guy. Sorry to disappoint you doubters. I only had one day to sort it between time away abroad so I didn't really get chance to discuss it properly. The part comes in from Renault tomorrow and will be fitted on Tuesday. total cost is £400 plus VAT. I will feed back more detail when i talk to him tomorrow.
Mine passed but with an advisory the same thing at renault in hull. car was under warranty but they wouldnt cover it but a call to brian leighton renault (smithandroper from here) sorted it under warranty
OK, with a little digging around at the other site I discovered this is a common problem (not a female at an MOT station as suggested by those clearly uninformed posters above!) If you were unaware some reading below. 'Play in lower ball joint requiring complete hub replacement if you go to Renault.' However it appears not as expensive as the posts below suggest. The complete hub was £200 not £600 as suggested and my garage is going to fit it for £200. So not as expensive as Aarons Autos suggest but still a lot of a 3 year old car with lowish miles. http://www.meganesport.net/community/showthread.php?82289-2010-Megane-250-Front-ball-joints http://www.aaronsautos.co.uk/services/megane-rs250-ball-joints/ http://www.meganesport.net/communit...-RS-250-(2010-)-front-ball-joint-Aarons-Autos
